I have to go through a really shitty area to get to work, and I'm starting to get a lot of dirty looks and people trying to threaten/intimidate me, I think due to all the tension with the police violence and stuff. Feels like I have a target on my back.
I'm too poor to buy a gun right now (I've been saving though), what are some cheap, effective, and legal ways to defend myself if I'm attacked?
This is minnesota, so I feel like even if I had to use a gun in self defense I'd be fucked over no matter what, I'd rather be in jail than dead though. Right now I carry a mora knife, but I've heard you can't legally use a knife in self defense, nor is it a good idea due to the high chance of self-injury.
What are some good options for me? I'm 6'4" 220lbs for reference, idk if that's relevant but I feel like it's the reason I haven't been attacked yet, my cousin is 5'7" and he's been mugged 3 times going through safer areas than I have to go through and also less often. He started carrying a baton with a blindingly bright light on the end of it and some pepper spray, those won't put a guy down though so once they recover they're just going to be more pissed off.
