Is holding a lighter in the fist while punching really beneficial?

I came across multiple times people saying that it gives a stronger punch and reduced the risk of self injury. Is that true? And if its true is there any tool thats even better or specific designed for this purpose?

How to keep safe Uber eats on a bike?

Hey, so I started Uber eats on my bike and I'm concerned about it taking me into a rough area. I thought about doing a belt holster of mace, but I'm concerned about the safety coming undone and id accidentally spray myself while riding. Or maybe should I carry a taser?

Self-defense classes and or techniques for older newbies

And by older I mean 50+, in decent shape, work out often, but have arm knees and shoulder joints and a back that act their age (ache) often 😝

Where does someone like that start (other than the usual weights and cardio which is already happening).

Would love to know more advanced techniques on self protection against someone who knows how to fight, take down techniques, effective holds, escapes, proper hitting and punching and blocking, anything and everything (and low impact at least for practicing 😝 )

Situational Awareness

Alright so that is the first advice every reputable person would give you. But how tho?

Those who have it take it for granted, like it is actually hard to turn it off. It comes with practice. I'll do my best to bridge the gap.

Use all your senses. I can't give away all the game because as they say the game is to be sold, not told.

Just be aware. Don't have your nose in a phone, tunnel vision.

Be loose. it makes you more receptive.

That one is free.

Read books like Rory Miller. Peace.

Anyone tried tasing themselves with a stun gun?

So I am extremely curious as to what it feels like. My brother has done it to himself multiple times and says it’s not that bad. I’m trying to get someone to describe what the pain feels like but if I google it or use AI to try and figure it out, it always thinks I’m depressed. I have such an urge to do it to myself but I am scared haha 😂

Non-lethal weapons for home defense

Hi

I live in a tiny island country where guns are illegal and they have extremely stupid laws when it comes to self defense.

Hell, even pepper spray is illegal here.

My country and neighborhood used to be very safe until now.

There has been a spate of reports of drugged up violent youths harassing women, threatening to r@pe them and most recently a bone chilling violent break in by two guys armed with rods threatening to kill a guy and these fellas were coked up.

For context - I'm a tiny 5'6 guy, there is only so much muscle I can put on when I'm facing guys twice my size who are high on god knows what?

First variable lethality - because of the strict self defense laws I don't want to accidently kill or permanently disable someone. If I do so even if I can prove my life was in danger I could be the one who ends up in prison.

Second variable - practicality given I'm such a short person.

After work I was walking in the parking lot and something happened...

After work, it was around 9:40 PM, and I like to walk in the parking lot to get my step count up for about 30 minutes. In the same parking lot, there is, I guess, a pickleball field. It’s a new thing, and it attracts a lot of people, almost 100 at times, many of them teenagers.

In this area, there are a lot of wealthy teenagers who have a lot of money, and their parents buy them fast, nice cars. The parking lot is huge, almost too big for the needs of where I work and for the pickleball field.

I had my earphones in and was walking. I know that the teenagers drive really fast in the parking lot because it’s so big. They speed, going like 75 miles an hour. So I try to be careful. I walk near the islands and stuff, which may not protect me, but I’m trying to stay aware. Maybe I shouldn’t be walking there. I’ve always walked there. It used to be a lot quieter and safer before the pickleball fields. I’ve been walking there for about six years, and there have been no problems, but recently it’s been becoming more unsafe.

Out of nowhere, while I’m walking, someone yells, “Get the fuck out of the way! You need to watch where you’re going, you white piece of shit! Cars have preferential treatment in parking lots. Pedestrians don’t have the right of way. If you keep walking around here, I’m gonna run you over, and it’s gonna be your fault.”

He then drove off and parked at the pickleball field a couple hundred feet away. He had driven around before parking and met up with someone. I was only about 20 feet away from my car, so I got in as fast as I could. I was very scared. I didn’t say anything when he was yelling at me. It was some teenager. I just looked at him because I was shocked.

When I got in my car, I had an adrenaline dump and had a hard time concentrating. I wanted to call the cops, but I didn’t because I didn’t think anything could be done. I thought about confronting them, but I didn’t because I know that wouldn’t have solved anything. There’s not much you can do when somebody is in a vehicle. What if they actually do run you over?

That’s the thing. They’re in that car, and they think they’re invincible. I don’t know. I guess I just have to live with the fact that he got the best of that interaction. If he was on foot, it would be different, but because he was in a car, he felt invincible. Stupid, spoiled rich kids. Perhaps I shouldn't be walking in the parking lot anymore. But a part of me just feels like if I leave, then I truly have lost. Part of me wonders my pride was hurt because somebody was bossing me around or frightening me and there's nothing I can do about it I think sometimes you just have to take thanks this is nothing you can do I wish there was something I could have done. I was thinking maybe I should've just told him to F off what if you would've got out of the car and attacked me what if you said oh you just told me to F off I'm gonna show you how tough I am and he gets out of the car and like I don't know shoots me or something there's a million reasons never to stand up for yourself a million fears

This question is for the ladies. You feel threatened and disrespected. In this situation what is your first instinct to do to neutralize the threat and get away

Looking to learn self-defense without trainer

I want to learn how to fight for self-defense, but don't really have a trainer available for a variety of reasons. My idea was to watch videos/courses on how to throw a punch, dodge, block, etc., and then practice sparring with my brothers. To avoid injuries, we wouldn't be hitting each other at full force. Obviously, it'll be messier than learning with a pro trainer, but probably still good enough for overall self defense. I was thinking about getting a pair gloves, hand wraps, mouthguard, and a mat. Is this a great idea? What would you guys advise?

Personal alarm that isn't easy to accidentally trigger

Hi there! Does anyone have recommendations for personal alarm devices that have an on/off switch in addition to its sound trigger?

That way, I can switch it on as I'm walking home at night and before that, I can leave it in/hanging on my bag without worrying about it triggering accidentally. Preferably one that ships internationally to Singapore.

Due to the laws here though, it cannot have any kind of tasing/stun/shock/knife/pepper spray feature because that counts as a weapon and that's illegal here.

Female recently attacked & needs suggestions

I live in the worst part of Philadelphia unfortunately. Not to long ago I was robbed and then jumped by 8/9 men. They got me from behind so I'm not sure what I could have done to protect myself.

I'm looking for any suggestions for anything that I can use for protection. Keep in mind I'm in a city area, the attackers will most likely be running around, moving fast and multiple of them. I would need something to have enough effect to keep them in one spot for a moment so I can swiftly seek safety. Because if not then they will without a doubt sh00t me.

So depending on the situation I would have to go really assess what is happening and if me using protection is a pro or con.

ANY advice at all would be helpful.

Bulk Pepper Spray?

Hey, I’m not sure if this violates the weapon rules or not, but I don’t have any idea what other subreddit I’d post this in.

I work at an ER as a scribe and was recently notified we will either have to start paying to park in the garage near the hospital or park for free at a parking lot a sizable distance away. Seeing as we already don’t get paid very much already, I, and many of my fellow coworkers, will likely elect to park in the lot.

This, of course, makes me concerned about the safety of my fellow employees, especially if we’re working the night shift and having to walk alone in the relative darkness.

So, I was thinking of buying mini pepper spray to distribute to people who want it, preferably in bulk, and I wanted to know if anyone’s done the same and has any recommendations for what to buy. I’d most likely just be paying for this out-of-pocket, but the price wouldn’t be too much of a concern for me.

Options for two 15 y/o females

My daughters have started riding public transportation and have faced harassment on several occasions.

Mostly men becoming aggressive after declining their advances.

They currently have tazer and pepper spray we purchased from a sports store.

HOWEVER, we were informed these items are banned from public transportation and their schools.

Their father said to ignore the rules but I disagree.

What other options are available?

We are in Texas and they are teenagers.

So just in case something happens to me one day, I want to know where do I hit for him to feel enough pain to be unable to do anything to me for a good while. Handling the Stress

I just came back from hanging out with a colleague of mine. It was my wife, her, and I. When we had our last cup of coffee and left the place, we were standing near my colleague's car, having our last two-minute conversation. Suddenly, I realized a guy was standing about 10 feet away from us, specifically behind us, wearing a puffer jacket (35-40°C weather btw), one hand in his pocket, and nervously looking around, constantly checking his watch on his wrist. After realizing this, I told my wife and my colleague to get in the car. She took us somewhere farther away, where she and my wife said that they both realized the weird guy. I know that we were safe then, nothing dangerous happened, or whatever could have happened was prevented thanks to our awareness, but I just can't get over it. I'm now at home, sitting in front of my laptop, imagining what could have happened. I'm imagining every single scenario, and I feel extremely stressed. What if something had happened and I couldn't protect my loved ones? I practiced martial arts before, Muay Thai for about 4 years, and I still kinda do, but I feel extremely stressed after similar situations. Even if nothing happened, I can't get over it and think about the situation for at least two days. Is this normal? Does this happen to all of us, or do I need some professional help?

What’s a realistic self defense plan for someone living alone?

I live alone in an apartment and I’ve been thinking more seriously about personal safety lately.

I’ve taken a basic self defense class, and I try to stay aware of my surroundings, but I’m trying to figure out what a realistic everyday self defense approach actually looks like beyond just that.

I get that martial arts takes time and I’m not expecting overnight results, so I’m more interested in practical things people actually use day to day.

For those who’ve thought this through, what does your setup or routine look like?

Is it mainly awareness, home security, pepper spray, habits, or a mix of things?

Just trying to build something realistic without overthinking or becoming paranoid.

Self defense decision tree: how do you decide what to learn first?

I’m 32F, living alone in a city, and I’ve started thinking more seriously about personal safety after a couple incidents in my neighborhood.

The problem is I keep getting completely different advice depending on who I ask.

Some people say start with awareness + pepper spray. Others recommend martial arts like BJJ or Krav Maga. Some say firearms. And some say you eventually need a mix of everything.

I don’t really have the time or budget to do all of it at once, so I’m trying to figure out if there’s any kind of order or framework people use when starting from zero.

What did you prioritize first, and why? Did you build layers over time, or focus on one thing until you felt solid?

Also curious what you wish you had done differently in hindsight.

Fear Doesn’t Create Respect. It Creates Survival.

By Rob Andress

Violence Prevention Specialist

Street Safe Self Defence Training Company

Fear and Respect Are Two Very Different Things

One of the biggest myths I hear is that fear creates respect.

It doesn’t.

Fear creates survival.

People often confuse the two because, on the surface, they can look the same. Someone becomes quiet. They stop arguing. They comply. They agree. They keep their head down.

Many people look at that behaviour and think, “See? They respect me.”

I don’t.

I see someone whose brain has shifted into survival mode.

After more than 30 years studying violence, teaching thousands of Canadians, and working with healthcare professionals, teachers, municipalities, REALTORS®, security teams, and young people, I’ve learned one thing that never changes:

Human behaviour makes far more sense when you understand what the brain is trying to accomplish.

At Street Safe Self Defence Training Company, we spend far less time asking, “What’s wrong with this person?” and much more time asking, “What is this person’s brain trying to achieve right now?”

That question changes everything.

The Brain Doesn’t Care About Your Ego

Your brain has one primary job.

Keep you alive.

It doesn’t care whether you’re in a boardroom, a classroom, a hospital, or at home arguing with your partner.

If your brain believes you’re under threat, it starts changing how you think, how you communicate, and how you behave.

That’s biology.

Not weakness.

Not attitude.

Not disrespect.

Fight, Flight, Freeze… and Fawn

Most people have heard of fight or flight.

Far fewer understand freeze or fawn.

Yet I see these responses every week.

Someone becomes aggressive.

Someone walks away.

Someone shuts down.

Someone smiles, apologizes, agrees with everything being said, and tries desperately not to upset the other person.

People often mistake that last one for respect.

It isn’t.

It’s called fawning, and it’s one of the brain’s survival strategies when someone feels they can’t fight or escape.

Understanding that can completely change how we interpret human behaviour.

This Happens Every Day

Think about the employee who’s afraid to question the boss.

The teenager who agrees because they don’t want to be rejected.

The healthcare worker who stays silent.

The victim of domestic violence who appears loyal to the very person hurting them.

The student who laughs at the bully’s joke.

People often ask,

“Why didn’t they just say something?”

Because sometimes the safest thing the brain believes it can do… is survive the moment.

That isn’t weakness.

That’s human biology doing exactly what it evolved to do.

Fear Produces Compliance. It Doesn’t Produce Trust.

If people only listen because they’re afraid…

they’re not following you.

They’re managing you.

They’re constantly assessing risk.

They stop sharing ideas.

They stop reporting problems.

They stop telling you the truth.

They simply become better at surviving around you.

That’s not leadership.

That’s intimidation.

And intimidation has never been a sustainable way to build healthy relationships, healthy workplaces, or safer communities.

This Is Why We Teach Behaviour First

Everything we teach at Street Safe Self Defence Training Company starts with one principle.

Understand behaviour before you attempt control.

Whether it’s our CARE (Clinical Awareness & Response to Escalation) program for healthcare, TRAACS (Tactical Risk Awareness & Applied Combatives System) for municipalities and security professionals, or our work with schools and REALTORS®, the principle never changes.

Violence doesn’t come out of nowhere.

Behaviour tells the story first.

If we learn to recognize that story early enough, we often prevent the violence from ever happening.

That’s what real violence prevention looks like.

Not bigger muscles.

Not better punches.

Better understanding.

Respect Has to Be Earned

Respect grows through consistency.

Integrity.

Fairness.

Competence.

Keeping your word.

Treating people with dignity.

Fear takes a different path.

Fear grows through uncertainty.

Control.

Threats.

Humiliation.

Power.

They may produce similar behaviour in the short term.

But they’re completely different experiences for the person living through them.

One builds relationships.

The other builds survival strategies.

Final Thoughts

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned over the years is this:

Behaviour always makes sense once you understand what the brain believes it’s protecting.

The next time someone becomes quiet, agrees with everything, avoids conflict, or suddenly changes their behaviour, don’t automatically assume you’ve earned their respect.

Ask yourself a better question.

Have I earned their trust… or have I simply triggered their survival response?

Those are two very different things.

Understanding that difference is one of the foundations of violence prevention.

And it’s one of the reasons we continue teaching people across Canada that violence isn’t just about what happens during an assault.

It’s about understanding human behaviour long before violence ever begins.

Because at Street Safe Self Defence Training Company, our mission has never been to teach people how to win fights.

Our mission is much simpler.

Stop the Before, so the After Never Happens.

I’m assuming it’s a joke, but if you’ve just posted about how happy you are that you’re now licensed by the police to carry a gun and use deadly force, then perhaps they should take another look at your psychological eval.

Effective knife blade length?

In my country, in order to qualify as a "cold weapon", the blade length of a knife must be more than 90 mm. I'm pretty sure that a 90 mm blade won't be effective in a self-defense scenario, against a fairly muscular/fat dude. What kind of blade length is guaranteed to incapacitate? If you're jumped at by an attacker and the only thing accessible is your knife, you wouldn't want to lightly graze the fat and muscle tissue, would you? If your opponent is under influence of substances or just a violent kind of schizo, that kind of damage won't stop him for a pretty long while, and that's not the kind of risk you want to take when it comes to self-defense. Sorry if my post violates the rules.

Unavoidable Run-in with Violent Stranger

I was targeted by a violent(and possibly homeless) man the day before yesterday. I was walking my dog as I normally do, 6am in the morning, bright out, and this tall skinny crackhead-looking guy was standing in the middle of the grass area I have to pass to get to the big church parking lot I do laps in everyday. I've never seen him before.

As I rounded the bushes at the corner of the grass area, I spotted him immediately since he was wearing a bright gray hoodie w/ hood up, light blue sweatpants, and he was already mean-mugging me hard. What startled me the most was how fast my gut began screaming at me that this was serious. My dog noticed him as well and he rushed me almost immediately as my dog began to bark and snap at him(he was ~10yds from us, on the other side of a low 2ft bush that was inbetween us). He was speaking through his teeth with a hoodrat/gangster accent that he was gonna kill me and my dog so I stuck out my arm, pointing directly at his face, and told him not to come near me as my dog and I kept walking ahead while also holding my dog back from biting him.

He completely ignored my dog lunging and barking at him while advancing towards me, hands tucked, and kept low mumbling the disgusting things he was gonna do to me while following me a short distance through the huge empty parking lot which made me nervous. If he wasn't afraid of my dog ready to attack him, he was 100% ready to fulfill his earlier death-threats to kill us. But I guess since I didn't give him the reaction he wanted quickly enough, he stopped and went back when I acted like I ignored him and shrugged him off as unimportant, as I usually do to POS like him. Unfortunately it didn't end there.

He continued stalking me as we walked down the street and was now waiting for me to pass him on the way home. I turned around to check and he was pacing around back and forth like a rabid animal and still talking to himself right in the pathway we just had came from, repeatedly staring me down and posturing to square up at me(he even ripped the neckline of his hoodie in anger like he was showing his chest). I had a pocket knife on me and a cordless hole-puncher but no way was I gonna let this demon get near me or my dog. He most likely had something on him as well + a disease or two minimum and I can't risk my dog getting hurt or me going to jail.

Even with that being said, I had no other options as that was the only path home so I ended up walking back on the other side of the street as a few cars passed us and he started walking away the same direction to stay in front of us, still talking shit and punching his fists together. He went far enough ahead, maybe thinking that's where I was headed to stay in my current path, that I managed to cross the street quickly in his direction and it startled him. He squared up again ~20yds from us but I gave quick glance and kept moving as we went back through the parking lot and went home, making sure he didn't follow again or see where I live.

My question is what can I do about someone who is now a known threat but an innocent life under your protection is with you while having your hands-tied legally(dogs are property under my state's law and I would be crucified if I took someone's life over them hurting or killing my dog)? I'm not too fond of some lowlife that's now seemingly claimed territory over my favorite place my dog and I like to spend time at, especially super close to home. The "calling the cops" route is useless, they can't do anything until something happens(their own words, almost verbatim).

So far I've just been taking her a different route but the issue still sits in the back of my mind.

Romanian Self Defense Gun Laws

Romanian self defense gun laws are so incredibly stupid.

It states that you should store your gun in a separate safe from your ammunition, locked at all times.

My f'in question is; If someone enters my home, wielding a knife or a bat at my family, how much time will he give me to unlock my also locked container in which i keep my ammo, load my gun, or insert a loaded magazine which also should be in a separate locked container from said firearm.

So by the time one can take action you can also start counting how many obituaries you'll have to write if you're still alive that is. (and i'm talking about rubber bullets btw, not even real ammo unless you go through the hassle of acquiring that permit.)

Also i've just had an incident where someone came inside my house, tried to strangle me with no provocation after i tried walking away, I gave him the pacifier (3 punches to the face and a headbutt) and then somehow i got in trouble because i used excessive force, in my own home.

How is this even possible. I have a 9 yr old sister, some 40 year old dude waltzes into my house, attacks me with no prior provocation, and then i'm in knee deep shit because of him. What.

EDIT: if someone is more knowledgeable, please feel free to share your perspective. I talked to a police officer after said incident, he was the one who told me that i have used excessive force (i'm 128 pounds to the other guy's 198-ish)

how would you view this self-defense scenario?

Looking for legal opinions on a self-defense homicide case.
Hypothetical scenario:
A man gets involved in an altercation at a bar after seeing a family member being attacked. During the chaos, he strikes a woman who he believes is involved in the altercation. The situation is eventually broken up and everyone is removed from the bar.
After leaving, the man goes to his vehicle and sits there for several minutes trying to locate the person he came with so they can leave. He makes multiple phone calls and remains in the vehicle for a period of time.
Eventually he gets out of the vehicle to look for the person he came with. While walking, he is recognized by several people (let’s say 5 people) connected to the earlier altercation. They begin confronting him about striking the woman earlier.
Initially he believes they just want to argue or demand an explanation. However, the confrontation becomes more heated. The group continues closing distance, another person joins them, and he begins backing away while raising his hands. Witnesses and video reportedly show him retreating and creating distance while the group continues moving toward him.
The video ends before the final use of force occurs.
The man ultimately uses deadly force, resulting in a death, and is later charged with murder.
Questions:
Legally, does the fact that the original bar fight had ended and everyone separated matter?
Does sitting in a vehicle for several minutes before the second confrontation help establish that these were two separate events?
How do juries generally view evidence showing someone backing away with their hands up?
Can a person reasonably fear death or serious bodily injury from a group of approximately four people approaching, even if no one has thrown a punch during the final encounter?
Does striking a woman earlier in the night automatically make the defendant the aggressor in the later confrontation?
If the video stops before the actual shooting, how do juries typically evaluate what likely happened next?
Would this fact pattern be more consistent with murder, voluntary manslaughter, or possible self-defense?
Interested in legal analysis and jury-perspective discussion rather than moral opinions.

Throwing elbow at a punch?

I know elbows can be used to block punches, but I was watching Mr Inbetween and there is a fight scene where he throws his elbow at the incoming punches (like his elbow is a baseball bat and the incoming punch is a ball) and he breaks the other guys hand doing this.

Is this realistic or possible? I imagine it would be difficult to pull off anyway.

How do I learn how to box?

I’ve been boxing for a while but my form is sloppy, I learned the basics from a guy I met at my gym who is a professional boxer over the span of 4 months. Hes moved recently, and this summer I want to sharpen and improve my skills. My gym has a rec area with punching bags. I can’t afford a coach so I have to learn myself.

Collapsible baton for walking with stroller

Hi I want advice on walking the neighborhood with a toddler in a stroller. occasionally my neighborhood has large dogs on the loose and I think a collapsible baton might be a compact tool that would be easy to juggle/carey. I think it would be good to create distance, deter and provide defense and I wouldn’t have to worry about my toddler pepper spraying herself if she gets her hands on it. The added benefit of having a tool for a woman and child from creeps is also undeniable

i don’t particularly want to CC a handgun in sweatpants with my toddler.

I know it’s against the law in some places but not in my state to open carry it, but my intent it more on creating a deterrent (especially for dogs) rather than beating someone like Rodney king.

Dealing with aggressive homeless people

So my friend came and visited me while I was staying in SF in a hotel for the weekend. We had a pretty chill weekend and he had parked in a garage about 2 blocks away. I help him carry some luggage and when we’re one block down we cross the street when the go light is on. I make it to the other side and wait on the corner of the intersection because we have to cross the street again and this homeless guy with a wagon of stuff I think was trying to cross to where we just were. He yells at me and says for me to get the fuck out of his way. I sidestep and he doesn’t move and just glares at me and is like DUDE WTF GET OUT MY WAY AND goes up to me and pushes me. I tell him fuck off and the other walkway goes off so my friend and I start crossing again. We looked back at the guy and he’s in the middle of his walkway just pissed off and still staring at me and is like YOU MADE ME DROP SOMETHJNG STUPID PIECE OF SHIT! He calls me the n word and f slur and yells and says he’s going to punch me in the face. My friend and I scurried off but he was just screaming at me as I was walking away. I don’t really want trouble but I honestly was not in this guys way at all and my friend said he was about to shove him if he got aggressive in my face or followed me.

How do you deal with aggressive homeless people if they literally aren’t even panhandling or anything but they just come up to you like they have a problem with you?

I’m a 5’10 pretty scrawny white guy, I’ve been to sf many times but never had an interaction like this. My friend is 6 ft and pretty big but I won’t always have friend nearby.

I run security for a church. Here's our stress inoculation drill.

I work as a security sergeant for a large church and school complex — armed team, active shooter response protocols, the works. One of the things we prioritize in training is stress inoculation: making sure skills hold up when your body is under physical and emotional stress, not just at the range when everything is calm.

Most self-defense training I see focuses on technique in controlled conditions. Which is fine for building the skill — but it doesn't prepare you for the cardiovascular reality of an actual threat.

We recently filmed a drill: sprint 50 yards full effort, then immediately engage targets. I did this alongside one of our instructors (active duty, blurred on camera). The degradation in fine motor control is real and it's something every civilian who carries should understand and train for.

Curious whether others here incorporate this kind of training — and if so, what protocols you use.

Happy to share the footage if there's interest.

I am a woman in Canada; how can I protect myself?

Things like pepper spray aren’t allowed. Bear spray is allowed but only for hikes. I had someone shove me extremely hard and choke me and I weigh around 120lbs!
All I did was freeze. I didn’t even get to report it since I felt extreme shame!

How do I prepare myself if something like that happens again? I grew up in an abusive household which made me a prime target for predators and abusers.

I am still angry about the incident.
What YouTube videos can I watch to learn how to defend myself?
I don’t have money for BJJ and self defence classes.

Had a encounter with an aggressive vagrant in NYC and my ego hurts

Hi guys I had a very interesting encounter today on 73rd and Broadway and I’m beating myself up for it.

I saw this man about 5”9 skinny but strong build seemingly harass this older man outside of a bank. By the time I got close he was already walking away. I had gotten in front of him and turned around to him accosting an old woman. She must’ve been 85+ she was using a walker and hunched over completely moving at snail speed. He had his arm around her and kept saying “You got beer?! Give me beer! So I stepped in and put my hand in between them not touching him and said hey man just let her go she doesn’t have anything. In a very nice and calm way. For context I am also 5”9 (same height as this guy), 180lbs right now with muscle not fat and have trained Muay Thai for 3 years and BJJ for two. I’m not some UFC fighter but I can hold my own against the average person. Back to the story. After I stepped in and spoke to him he turned to me and said are you with her angrily. I said yeah I’m with her hoping that would deescalate the situation right away. He turns to her and asks her “is he with you?” and this damn lady says no! Like are you stupid I am trying to fucking help you. So then the guy turns to me and tells me to back the fuck away. I stood my ground and tried to talk him down until the old lady had gotten away and had some distance between us. He then gets in my face and is yelling “walk away bro I’m going to beat the shit out of you” etc etc. So I stood in his face for a couple seconds talking to him and my right hand was twitching I truly truly wanted to smash his face into the ground. But I said okay man you got it and walked away. He began to follow me for a couple blocks at a distance saying walk away man walk away I’m going to fuck you up. I would stop periodically and say you’re going to attack me for helping an old woman? You’re going to attack me on Broadway? But he continued to walk forward yelling so I walked away and called the cops. They told me that they can’t even do anything if they find him since he didn’t touch me. I said what would have happened if I hit him when he was in my face and they said I would have gone to jail. They said even if he hits you and you’re rolling around you’re both going to jail. They did say that realistically the court case would be open and shut since he’s a lunatic but I did the right thing for helping the lady and not fighting him. I feel like a pussy though. He was a bad guy and a bully and I wanted to show him why you shouldn’t bully anyone you see on the street. I was very scared of him having a weapon though and that also made me hesitant. I just feel like a baby and I should have taken into my own hands and not walked away. I feel terrible about this. What do you guys think? Did I do the right thing or should I have taken it to the next step?

Keep in mind, I don’t do bjj at all, Ive boxed for a few years at max. There’s this kid at my high school who is constantly trying to instigate a fight by pushing people around. He does bjj, and is on my schools wrestling team. Unfortunately hes in my gym class and in the locker rooms he’s constantly coming after me, picking on me and stuff. Hes done this before and let’s say if anything happens, what can I do so I don’t end up on the lockeroom floor? My schools administrators don’t do squat btw.

Self-defense techniques or weapons for cheating spouses?

It's a well-known statistic that a large fraction of homicides are committed by romantic partners, with affairs being one of the leading causes. Women, especially, are at far higher risk. If a woman is killed, it's very likely that the killer was a current or former romantic partner or spouse. Some stats go as far as to show that more than 3 out of every 4 women murdered were murdered by either a romantic partner or family.

So, what is the best way to defend yourself from being murdered in such domestic situations? Especially if you are cheating and could be caught at any time? What would you do to save yourself if your spouse catches you in bed with your lover? Especially considering that some other aggressor, like a robber or a home intruder, might be calm, methodical, and somewhat reasonable (like, give me money and I'll let you go), but the spouse who has just found out about the affair would be freaking out in a terrifying way? How do you defend against a person who is completely unpredictable like that? Unfortunately, even the law is on the side of the aggressor, with punishments as little as just one year or even simply probation in some states.

A 6’5 aggressive meth head got in my face and threatened me

I’m 19, about 5’8” and I don’t have much fighting experience. Today I was walking on the sidewalk with my girlfriend when a guy who was sitting near the sidewalk/parking lot suddenly rushed toward me.

I didn’t really notice him at first because he was off to the side, but I was glancing around my surroundings and ended up making eye contact with him. Right after that, he immediately got up/rushed me like he wanted to fight. He got really close to me, started threatening me, and was acting very aggressive and wanting to “smash my head”.

The guy looked around 6’5”, way bigger than me, and seemed unstable. I honestly felt like if he actually attacked me, I probably wouldn’t have won because of the size difference and because he got so close so fast. I also had my girlfriend with me, so I was trying not to escalate anything or make the situation worse.

I ended up de-escalating by keeping my hands up, not acting aggressive, and saying things like “sorry” and trying to calm him down. Eventually it didn’t turn into a fight, but afterward I kept thinking about how close it came and how unprepared I felt.

For people with actual self-defense experience, what should I have done in that situation? How do you create distance when someone much bigger is already within a couple feet of you? How do you protect yourself and someone you’re with without escalating the situation? Also, how do you avoid freezing when someone suddenly rushes you like that?

I’m scared I won’t be able to protect my partner

I 30F recently started dating someone, also 30F. For some reason when I’ve been single or in other relationships, keeping my partner safe if something were to happen hasn’t really crossed my mind. The only time I can think of is when my ex and I were driving somewhere separately a road rager was trying to push her out of her lane. We stopped a red light and I yelled at him out my window that she was my girlfriend and to leave her alone. That was the first time I’ve considered I might be in genuine danger but I think I was so angry and worked up that I didn’t really consider what I’d do if he tried to hurt us.

Recently, my current partner and I were getting ice cream and she accidentally bumped into this guy, and he touched her back for a little too long before moving away from her. Not a huge deal, expect this man also had a sword on him and was wandering around the place not ordering anything, walking in and out of the bathroom, and just in general being sketchy. Both of us were really uncomfortable. Side note: she lives in Chicago and I live in the suburbs. If a man with a sword walked into an establishment where I live, the cops would have been called immediately by someone, but obviously it’s not unusual to see weird shit in the city.

Later that night, my girl made a joke about how I didn’t “protect her” from this guy. And for some reason that’s when it really hit me that if that guy had tried to hurt her, I’m not sure I would have been of any use. Again, if there was an actual threat or if I was mad, there’s a possibility I would try, but I’m smart enough to know that being mad is not a strategy for defending yourself or someone else.

In recent years, especially living in the US, I’ve wondered if I should get a gun just in case I ever need it. But I genuinely don’t feel comfortable with the idea of being armed. I do believe everyone should know gun safety and how to use one (I’ve been to a range and was taught the bare basics) but the idea of carrying that around just is a challenging concept for me at the moment. Now, my girl has a gun, but she doesn’t carry it in public and I think it’s more for protecting herself at home. Out in public she carries mace and sometimes a taser.

I know she wants to be with someone who would protect her, and it’s starting to really bother me that I’m not that person right now. In the last few months I have been interested in learning boxing and there’s a boxing gym about 5 minutes from me. I’ve also considered BJJ (again, a gym very close to me). I’m not even gonna ask the question of if I should start doing some form of martial art because the answer is obvious. If I’m not gonna carry a gun, I should at least know how to fight.

So, this was more of a rant than anything but I’m open to hearing any thoughts.

Just avoided getting mugged need some advice

My wife and i went out for a late movie night a couple nights ago. We’re in Orange County California and we’ve always heard about the crime rates but never witnessed anything ourselves.

We were arriving within our gated community around 3 am when i see a black jeep just idling in the middle of the road within the community. I drive around him and he begins to follow closely. I park my car within our parking garage which is next to everyone else cars. However he parks his car directly behind to block me. We weren’t aware that we were followed until my wife exits the car and is immediately rushed by a hispanic man asking her “Quien eres?”. I grab my wife and pull her into the car and i pull out of the spot barely squeezing through. i attempt to block their car so i can get their license when he suddenly floors it. Had i not moved he would’ve t-boned me.

My wife and i were clearly shaken from the situation and i honestly don’t know what i could’ve done to protect her or myself. If the assailant was armed would any hand to hand combat really help? Should i consider taking course and arm myself while i get a taser for my wife? I’m relieved nothing happened but i’m concerned of ever being caught off guard and defenseless.

I appreciate any advice and if this isn’t the right subreddit to post this in please let me know where i should post this!

Concealed Carry Pepper Spray Gun?

I need help finding a useful pepper spray that is in the shape of a firearm without presenting itself as one explicitly. I want something that can simulate the ergonomics so that when I am able to purchase one I’d be used to it. For context I’d be doing unarmed security, or any normal job. I also like going on walks or runs during times that are typically low light. I’ve never been in any danger, but I’m in a pretty ghetto area.

Can I use pepper spray more than once?

I used my pepper spray once to try. But if I'm not wrong I saw something like they can be used only once. After that they are not safe to use because gas pressure will change after the first use.

Is that true? Should I change it to a new one? It's been like 2-3 weeks.

There has been an influx of robberies in my neighborhood.

They have begun coming into houses when the owners are inside. I am scared because i am a 16 year old girl that is often home alone and my house is quite big. What do I do if someone comes in? I mean I already have alarms and two doors on all entrances into the house but I am worried what I should do if they do get in. I wouldn't say I'd be totally useless in a fight, i'm 5'8 and quite muscular, however realistically, I know that up against a man of even my same height, I'd be absolutely useless. How do i make it out of this, and if it comes down to it, how do I fight a man (because i know a woman would probably not be robbing houses). I cannot own a firearm or shoot first because I live in canada, so that is not an option. I know I should hide and call authorities first. No turning on lights.

He said he had no money and forgot so we walked back, on the walk back he was silent and weird despite being friendly all day. Strobe light defense.... What???

I see this a lot with flashlights.

By simply turning on the strobe feature of a flashlight, you can disorient an attacker and flee to safety while said attacker is trying reorient himself and figure out what just happened. Seriously, unless your attacker has epilepsy, I'm pretty dang sure that a strobe light in the face of an attacker is only going to tick them off.

So, why does this continue to be a theme used as a selling point with some flashlights?

Legal items to carry to a bar or club

Looking for weapons of opportunity. What i means is, what regular item can i carry that can be used for self defense that is not illegal to carry to a place specifically for drinking like a bar or club. An example would be a scarf, and they have that martial arts that uses a scarf. I was looking at stuff like that. Another example would be learning to throw chopsticks (like you would a knife). I know you all will ask so here it goes-> i am female and last time i was out too many dudes kept trying to get me outside. I literally dress like a ninja when i goto the club to freak people out to stay away from me. I LOVE when the security watches me closely because they think i will do something. To me thats like extra protection. Truth is i fear someone will do something to me, but i cannot live happy in a bubble. Just looking for more ideas like the ones i described above. If you think a different sub is more appropriate please let me know🙏🙏🙏🙏

MMA or individual martial arts for real world self defense?

I’m a complete beginner trying to figure out the best path when it comes to martial arts and self defense.

Originally I considered going straight into MMA because it seems like the most complete option since it covers both striking and grappling. However, a relative of mine who has some martial arts experience told me that MMA can sometimes teach you a little bit of everything without necessarily helping you build a deep foundation in the individual arts themselves. Because of that, I started looking more into training specific disciplines individually.

At first I narrowed things down to Muay Thai for striking, BJJ for grappling and ground defense, and eventually Krav Maga later on for more self defense oriented training. The more I researched though, the more I started hearing different opinions. Some people say Muay Thai is amazing for clinching, elbows, knees, kicks, and overall toughness, but that boxing or kickboxing tends to develop better punching and hand striking. Others say MMA already combines all of this anyway and is still the best overall route for real-world fighting.

What I’m mainly looking for is to become well rounded for self defense. I want to get good at striking with both my hands and feet, develop solid footwork and movement like boxing emphasizes, be able to defend myself on the ground if things ever go there, stay calm under pressure, and build confidence overall. I’m not looking to compete professionally or become some cage fighter, just want practical skills that actually work in real life.

I’d also like to learn things like defending against strikes, controlling distance, and improving my overall situational awareness and self defense skills, although I understand avoiding dangerous situations is always the best option.

For those of you with actual experience training:

If you were starting over as a complete beginner focused mainly on practical self defense, what route would you personally recommend and why?

Need help on staying sane outside, some guy might want to hurt me

Long story short I got robbed and was threatened with weapons. There's a hearing in a few months in my case. I'm the witness and the fucker who robbed me is the defendant.

You're kinda fucked in my country if there's evidence in court that you robbed someone with a weapon. I don't think he's going to go to jail, fine at most, but that's even worse probably lol.

My city is not big but also not that small, but I am 60% sure this guy and his friends passed by me in the city centre today.

He knows my name, most likely doesnt remember how I look, but I'm not sure, the group that I saw today was looking at me in a really fucking weird way. My adrenaline shot up and I was ready to start running.

Pretty much every time I go out into the city I keep scanning everything I see like I'm a cop. I know it's good practice to do shit like this and that prevention is the best self defense. But it's no way to live at all. This is my city, I was born here, some young cunts robbed me and threatened to kill me for no reason, and now I am afraid the guy wants to get some revenge or whatever the fuck. Especially after the court hearing but I will try to arrange it in a way that he won't see my face in court.

I dont have the time and money to invest in training. I work out and I run but I cant relax when Im outside. I feel like Im being hunted although nothing's happened to be fair.

How do escape getting choked laying down by someone bigger than you?

I was on TikTok, YouTube, and Google trying to figure out how to escape getting strangled. And I noticed that all these women demonstrating were either fighting off other women or men either the same size or close. For reference I’m 5’0 and 115lbs if a man comes up to me both when standing up but especially when I’m laying down chances are I can’t flip them or pull them off of me. So what do I do to escape them? Cause so far all I’ve got is the turtle neck thing we’re u tuck ur neck and pull up your shoulders to get air.

Confused about ALICE training

I'm an independent educator that visits schools and other educational institutions throughout the year. I've attended two public "sessions" about how to respond in an active shooter situation, but they have been fairly informal. Looking at the ALICE website, their events are titled "Instructor Certification Training" which seems to be aimed at becoming an actual instructor. Does ALICE ever hold events or training that the public can attend, or do they only service professional organizations? As I am not affiliated with any particular school, I seem to have no way to attend a class.

If this is true...what alternative, in-personal informational "trainings" would you recommend?

Can you knock someone out with 0 experience?

Ofcourse I'm not talking about knocking out an experienced boxer or a street fighter.

But if you ever get into a scenario where fighting back is the only option (like getting kidnapped or robbed randomly on the street because complying can get you into something even worse) could you knock somebody out without having any fight experience? (Considering you're stronger/weigh heavy than them)

Or are there any better ways to escape/defend yourself from a situation like that

Has anyone actually used a personal alarm keychain?

I've been looking into personal alarm keychains (the ones that emit a loud 120dB siren when you pull a pin) as a simple, non-lethal safety tool.

A few things I'm curious about:

  1. Have you or someone you know ever actually triggered one in an emergency? What happened?

  2. Do you think the sound is loud enough to deter an attacker or draw attention?

  3. How long have you been carrying one, and does it give you genuine peace of mind or is it more of a placebo?

Would love to hear honest firsthand accounts positive or negative. Trying to figure out if this is genuinely useful or just a feel-good gadget.

How to counter and neutralise someone who’s bigger?

I’m at university and I’m in a student club and there’s this dude who’s bigger in size and always tries to insult me and to be aggressive towards me. He always tries to be the alpha in the group and I know this sounds cringe but it’s literally what he’s doing. For some reason he has targeted me and whenever he tries to attack me I always stand up for myself. The problem is however that I’m afraid this will escalate into physical violence.

If this happens I need to know what I can do in order the defend myself, and then cause to him as much damage as possible to neutralise his threat. Some will suggest to run away but the issue is I will put myself in a really bad position socially if I run away because he knows a lot of people and will try to ruin my reputation.

I’m really sad that I’m in this situation to begin with and I don’t know what to do. I want to at least be prepared if it escalates.

Also I just want to say I can’t speak to anyone about this because they will think I’m overreacting, lying etc. You know how in school, teachers don’t do anything against the bullies. This is something similar and it’s even worse because we are all adults in a more “professional” supposedly environment.

Need a EDC strobe flashlight for self defense

Like the title says, Id like to have a small compact flashlight that has a powerful strobe mode thats able to be used in a single click. I see most flashlights having to cycle through a few clicks before the strobe light is accessible, in the case of an emergency I know seconds are valuable so having a strobe light that can be used in a single click is my ideal preference, as well as being small and compact enough for everyday carry. Of course ideally strong brightness too but with more emphasis on EDC type of light and using the strobe to disable an attacker and get away or to put as much distance between us so something ideally with a strong throw as well.

I know thats a lot of boxes to check off but does anyone have good recommendations?

why cant I exactly beat burglars to near death?

Dont come at me with some moral bullshit. If a burglar breaks into my house there is no „excessive self defense“. Im gonna beat them with something as long as it takes until I feel safe enough.

I heard there were thiefs/break-ins in my neighborhood but because I live one of the most cucked countries of all time (germany) all Im supposed to do is „run away and call the police“ (<- slave mindset) cant even own a fucking gun here without going through 20 hoops.

I should be able to blast those retards who decide to rob me. Its assumable that they will try to kill me. But no, all I can do is knock them down to the ground at most and run away. Not even continue beating them with a stick without a risk of going to jail. What is this pussy shit I fucking hate it here.

Boxing or MT for Self-Defense as an average sized male?

I am about 5'10-5'11 (somewhere here) and fluctuate between 185-205 naturally. I am wondering what is better between MT or Boxing as someone who has really only experience doing BJJ/Grappling. The main thing I am wondering is against a much bigger opponent hypothetically (6'2+) it seems risky to get close/in-range for boxing strikes which intuitively leads me to believe that MT would be better in terms of being able to strike and not get in close.

Albeit, there seems to be an equally good counter argument that fighting an opponent much taller to you implies they have greater reach so maybe closing distance would be better. What are y'alls thoughts on this?

What can I do to feel safer if Im going to court? A guy robbed me

Long story short, 1.5 years ago I was exiting the club in my city and I got jumped by 4 shitheads who were younger than me. One of them was the main guy and he threatened me with knives, knuckle dusters and pepper spray.

I complied, gave him the money and then went to the police. I got a letter some time ago that there is a court hearing in my case, and im summoned as a witness. In my country the defendant receives almost the same letter as me, so he knows my name. I highly doubt he is intelligent enough to dox me, judging by how the robbery had went and how many mistakes he'd made and how I'd played him in a way.

The thing is I live in a ~million people city which is not really that big, there is a small chance that he might see me on a street. If he's dumb enough to fight me or try to kill me, he'll most likely do it with some other guys, so in this event I'm just gonna run.

If he'd do it solo, Im gonna try everything to avoid any confrontation with him anyway. What is the best thing I can do to feel safer? I work out and Im quite fit, I've never been in a fight and I dont know how to fight. I have strong pepper spray from fox but it's not always enough to stop someone, also it doesnt work right away.

also, I've always struggled with anxiety and adhd which is not helpful in this case

First fight, what to do?

okay so me and a few friends were walking around our local college campus. When a kid I recognize (not in a good way) walks by, I whisper to my friend “yo is that isaiah“. To which he decides to scream ISAIAH at the top of his lungs. the kid and his goons rode over on their bikes and my friend bolted off to his house when he realized who it was. The kid started getting in my face and talking about some “little kev”, before anything could escalate, my other friend threw a pine cone into the kids eye, allowing me to run off into an event going on on our campus. I tell a few guys what happened, and they said they’d handle it if it escalated. When the main guy came over, I noticed his 2 friends going opposite ways to find my other friend who ran to his house, the main guy said “this ain’t over. I’ll see you on Monday”. To which I breathed a breath of relief. afterward, me and my friends were discussing strategies for when the guy inevitably comes up on monday. Ultimately we decided to try and de escalate it. But based off how our interaction went, I think that’s off the table. What are some ways I can take him down? he’s about 4 inches taller, and based off what I know, the only fighting he’s ever done is on the street, and he does 0 martial arts. Do I take it to the ground or do I try to keep it fist to fist?

HOW NOT TO GET JUMPED

Adding to a post I made here not too long ago, I need some advice.

For a bit of backstory: I was suspended. I don’t believe in fighting or violence, but I got into a fight with another student because he stole from my brother and punched him hard enough that his earring went through his ear. Even though I’ve always tried to avoid fighting, seeing that made me so angry that I fought him.

Now here’s what I need help with: the student and around five of his friends are trying to jump me and my brother. I’ve seen him and some of his friends watching me, trying to see if I’d go into a bathroom alone. My brother is friends with some people connected to them, and they warned him to watch his back because they’re planning to jump us. Some of my own friends have also heard them talking about it.

I understand there are consequences to my actions, but I don’t regret standing up for my brother. I am scared, though. I reported it to the school, which some people might call a “bitch move,” but when it’s five people threatening you, I honestly don’t care what they think anymore.

I get out of school on May 22, and I’m trying to avoid things getting worse. How do I avoid this situation, and what should I do if they actually try something?

What do I do if my attacker is a woman?

Almost every self-defense video I(17M) watch is like "hit 'em in the groin, dude!" or "kick him in the balls!" which, I mean, is great if my attacker is a guy, but I've been in just as many creepy situations with women as I have been with guys.

I mean, as a dude, I get that I have a strength advantage, but that's not always useful, is it? What if she has a knife or is trained? I can't exactly kick her in the groin(at least not unless I have perfect aim, from what I understand). Regardless of the scenario, I always get the correct answer: to run. But I'm not sure what to do if I'm trapped with her. My strategy with a dude has always been to kick him where it hurts and then get the fuck out of there.

There's also the social aspect of it - I'd be hesitant to defend myself against a woman cause I feel like people would get pissed at me or immediately jump to her defense. I've never been to a self-defense class(can't afford it), and I've found nothing online, so I genuinely don't know what to do there.

If everything goes according to plan, I'll be moving out for Uni. I want to be prepared : )

Thanks, luvs

How to stay safe walking alone in isolated areas?

I am 26F and found this really beautiful place for evening walks. It is a large layout outside the busy noisy town with lots of trees, greenery, and barely any people. It genuinely feels peaceful and helps me clear my head as I am preparing for upcoming exam from home. Stepping out to a place like this is what I need. The issue is, the area is mostly empty and the few people around are mostly all men. There are only a handful of houses scattered around (all of them have camera's outside). Yesterday, I noticed one guy boozing there, and it made me a bit uncomfortable. I don’t want to stop going there just because of this. The layout is so big that I can skip the corners where these activities are happening. It's honestly one of the few places where I feel calm. But I also want to be realistic and stay safe.

Right now, I carry pepper spray and share my live location with my sibling when I go out. Honestly this place have become like a study reward for me.

I’d really appreciate any advice on:

1) Situational awareness / safety habits I should follow

2) Practical self-defense tips (especially for solo walking)

3) Psychological tricks or behaviors that can help avoid trouble

4) Red flags I should never ignore in such areas

Would love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

Most fights don’t start with punches—they start with pride. Here’s th

After thirty years in martial arts and a lot of time teaching civilians, the biggest misconception I see is that self-defense begins with technique. It doesn’t. It begins with status management.

The common pattern before a fight is predictable:

  1. A perceived slight
  2. An ego response
  3. A refusal to de-escalate because backing down “feels like losing”
  4. A rapid escalation to force

In practice, most people get hurt not because they lack skill, but because they misread or mishandle the honor/status dynamic in step 2.

If you can do two things consistently, you avoid 90% of fights:

  • Signal you’re not a threat
  • Signal you won’t accept harm

That combination doesn’t look weak. It looks calm and controlled.

Where can I read customer reviews for rugby protective gear?

I visited a sports store to find rugby protective gear two days ago. I wanted something strong and safe. I also wanted customer reviews. But when I checked the gear I felt disappointed. Some had no reviews. Some looked strong but felt weak. I could not trust them. I could not decide confidently.
Then I visited another shop in the same area. Some gear looked better but review details were unclear. Some were affordable but not safe. Some seemed perfect at first but felt uncomfortable in use. I remembered I used gear before that did not protect well. That made me hesitate even more.
To check more variety and options while scrolling many online marketplaces including alibaba I found many protective items. Some had strong reviews and ratings. Some were simple and low price. Some had better safety and durability. There were many options available. This made me excited but also confused again.
it feels that I go out of mind when I have huge number of options. Now I am thinking should I trust online reviews or local stores for real protection? What would you do in my place?

What are top-rated shin guards for professional ice hockey players?

Top-rated shin guards (ice hockey)

I visited a sports shop to buy ice hockey shin guards two days ago. I wanted something strong. I wanted something protective. I wanted something comfortable for fast skating. But when I checked… I felt disappointed. Some shin guards looked bulky but felt heavy. Some felt light but did not look protective enough. Some prices felt too high for basic designs. I could not trust them. I could not decide confidently.

Then I visited another shop in the same area. Some shin guards felt better but still mixed comfort and protection. Some had strong padding but limited mobility. I remembered trying old gear before that protected well but slowed me down during skating. That made me hesitate even more.

To check more variety and options while scrolling many online marketplaces including alibaba… Some top-rated shin guards for professional ice hockey players are from brands like Bauer, CCM, and Warrior Sports. Some models focus on lightweight protection for speed. Some use multi-layer foam and hard shell construction for impact safety. Some have anatomical fit designs to wrap closely around the leg for better movement. Some premium shin guards also include moisture-wicking liners to reduce sweat buildup during long games. Some reviews say Bauer is strong for balanced protection and comfort, CCM is preferred for traditional pro-level fit, and Warrior is known for mobility-focused designs.

Now I am thinking the best shin guards depend on balance between protection and speed, not just thickness. Online gives more pro-level options. Local lets me feel real fit and weight. Both feel useful in different ways. What would you choose in my place?

Why Do Some NFL Jerseys Feel More Authentic Than Others?

A few weeks ago I saw a kid at a sports store holding an NFL jersey tightly. At first it looked like any jersey but when I noticed the stitching, fabric weight and printed logos it felt like more than just fanwear.it carried a sense of team pride and quality. That moment made me realize how details matter even in something seemingly simple like a jersey.

later while casually scrolling through many online marketplaces including alibaba I noticed NFL jerseys in several variations. Some were official replicas with authentic stitching. Others were lighter versions for casual wear. Sizes, fabric types and printing methods varied widely. There were jerseys for collectors, fans and kids. It felt like buyers are looking for quality, comfort and authenticity rather than just any branded shirt.

That raises a few questions. How much does fabric type affect comfort and durability? Do printing or stitching methods really change the feel of the jersey? How accurate are replica designs compared to official ones? And how many variations exist that most people never see because local stores usually stock only a few popular team jerseys?

It makes you curious which design features actually make NFL jerseys feel authentic, durable and wearable and which small details quietly decide whether a jersey becomes a favorite piece or just another item in the closet ?

Socially acceptable gloves, with tight wrapping and wrist support?

I am looking for a product recommendation. Context; i've practiced martial arts most of my life. I am fairly capable, but just due to getting a little older, my hands don't respond or recover as well to as punching as they used to.

I wrap my hands carefully (and wraps are necessary for being able to punch full force without damaging my hands further) but for the unpredictable outside world, you don't get the time to wrap your hands.

Hence my question, has anyone ever found gloves that fit tight like a wrap that provide good wrist support without sticking out like a sore thumb?

Is a self defense ring useful for safety?

I visited an accessories shop to buy a self defense ring for personal safety two days ago. I wanted something small and useful. I also wanted something strong and easy to carry. But when I checked the rings I felt disappointed. Some looked weak and the edges were not sharp enough. Some designs did not feel practical. I could not trust them. I could not pick one confidently.

Then I visited another shop in the same area. Some rings looked strong but they were too costly. Some were affordable but the build quality was poor. Some seemed perfect at first but the grip did not feel good. I remembered I bought a safety item last week that broke quickly. That made me hesitate even more and I felt confused.

To check more variety and options while scrolling many online marketplaces including alibaba I found many self defense rings. Some looked strong and useful. Some were simple and low price. Some had better grip and design. There were many options available. This made me excited but also confused again.

Now I am thinking should I buy this ring online for more variety or should I trust a local store for better quality? What would you do in my place

Why are flower girl dresses important for weddings?

I visited a clothing store to buy flower girl dresses for a wedding event two days ago. I wanted something cute and elegant. I also wanted something comfortable for kids. But when I checked the dresses I felt disappointed. Some looked dull and the fabric felt rough. Some designs were not attractive. I could not trust them. I could not pick one confidently.

Then I visited another shop in the same market. Some dresses looked nice but they were too costly. Some were affordable but the stitching was weak. Some seemed perfect at first but the size was not right. I remembered I bought a dress last week that faded quickly. That made me hesitate even more and I felt confused.

To check more variety and options while scrolling many online marketplaces including alibaba I found many dresses. Some looked elegant and soft. Some were simple and low price. Some had better designs and colors. There were many options available. This made me excited but also confused again.

Now I am thinking should I buy this dress online for more variety or should I trust a local store for better fitting? What would you do in my place?

don't trust tactical jackets

always buy a jacket with stretchy collars and cuff, because you might get stuck inside that jacket not able to slip it off and maneuver out of dangerous attack!!

or maybe a nice tac jacket could have a feature that allows it to rip apart of someone grabs you by it and uses it to hold you !!

Which brands make the warmest ski mittens?

I visited a sports store to buy ski mittens two days ago. I wanted something very warm and protective for snow. I also wanted a trusted brand. But when I checked the mittens I felt disappointed. Some looked thick but not warm enough. Some brands were unknown. I could not trust them. I could not decide confidently.

Then I visited another shop in the same area. Some mittens looked better but were very expensive. Some were affordable but not properly insulated. Some seemed perfect at first but comfort was low in cold testing. I remembered I used mittens before that failed in snow trips. That made me hesitate even more.

To check more variety and options while scrolling many online marketplaces including alibaba I found many ski mittens. Some were highly rated and very warm. Some were simple and low price. Some had strong insulation and brand reputation. There were many options available. This made me excited but also confused again.

Now I am thinking should I trust online ski brands or test local mittens for real snow performance? What would you do in my place?

Do you teach your children self defense?

Hi, I'm wondering if you all teach your children self defense, and if so at what age? And what specifically do you teach them?

Also, what would be a good place for me to start? I carry pepper gel and an alarm but there are places we go where I can't take those in, like the water park. I'm in a rural area and the only place we have around here is karate or something, there's nowhere that is specifically self defense, so videos might be best.

Beginner looking for good kickboxing gyms in Orange County, CA

Hey everyone, I’m a complete beginner looking to get into kickboxing first, then eventually Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

I live in Orange County and have been checking out a few places, including OKA Kickboxing Club in Irvine. I talked to a family member who has some experience with self defense training, and he suggested being careful with more commercial style gyms and instead looking for places that focus more on solid fundamentals and real training.

My main goals are:

• Learning proper technique

• Building confidence

• Developing real self defense skills

• Getting into better shape

I’m not looking to compete, just want to train consistently and actually learn.

I also asked OKA Kickboxing Club about whether they include contact conditioning and they said they do, but I’m not sure what to look for beyond that as a beginner.

For those of you who train in OC:

• What gyms would you recommend for kickboxing?

• Has anyone trained at OKA Kickboxing Club or similar places?

• What are some green flags or red flags I should watch for when checking out a gym?

I appreciate any advice.
