Just sending some praise towards Alien Gear's customer service!

I recently ordered a third cloak tuck for a new carry piece, and noticed that alien gear changed their clips to be more rigid. So I ordered two sets to put on my other holsters. (As a side note:I placed my order late Friday night, got a shipping notification 2 hours later, and they arrived today.) While changing the clips I noticed a crack in the shell for my 1911. It had been a little loose, so I was going to change the spacers. I emailed them at 6:01 pm explaining the issue. At 6:19pm I received an order confirmation for a new shell at no charge. They have an awesome warranty and great customer service. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2fyx5Dm

1st day CC

Hello everyone, Long time lurk/reader..over this last weekend I took my CCW course and today I have mailed in all my paper work...now I do live in Arizona(so not a rush to have/with our great laws) but I wanted to wait till I took the class and did some more reading..but this morning I decided to go CC today and I am not turning back. I went to work, rode public transit went out to lunch with a co worker and guess what not a single person noticed(crazy right ha). I was worried at first like many others are like I have read. After a while it just felt like apart I me. I am very happy to final feel free and safe. And I will update everyone once I get my card.(I am carrying a glock17 gen4 MOS. My review of the 5.11 holster shirt

After I had expressed since interest in the 5.11 holster shirt my wife bought me one for my birthday. I've been using it periodically for several months, here are my impressions. First off, it doesn't make you look anything like the jacked AF dude in the pictures. It seems well made and has held up well after several washes. It fit nicely in a medium (I'm 6' 180) I got the regular neck and I think if I did it again I would go for the v-neck. I got this shirt with the intention of carrying my Canik tp9v2 and being able to conceal it well, in that regard it does not perform well. The shirt prints badly with anything larger than a shield. Also it is super hot and the pockets do not breathe at all. I'm not a sweaty guy and I'm soaked when I have it on. By the time it is cool enough to have this on I could just as well put on a hoodie and have little printing with an OWB. Retention is also an issue, on more than one occasion I had my (larger) weapons fall out of the pockets. Draw time is slow and loud do to the Velcro. I'll still use it for my wallet and lcp on a jog or when exercising but that's about it. Although the shirt is well made it is really not a good option for ccw.TL/DR: Good to hold your wallet, bad for daily carrying. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2etbDvh

Best lightweight, low profile IWB for J frame?

I'm looking for a new IWB holster for my S&W 442 and was looking for suggestions.I currently carry it in a Remora tuckable lined in leather. I like the Remora, it is fairly light and has a low profile, but it is bulky width wise, and when training, the clip doesn't always hold on quick draws. Then I recently bought a Kydex one thinking it would be better, but the standard clip used on Kydex holsters adds a lot of size around the waste and doesn't work well with the shape of a wheel gun.So and suggestions? Should I look at hybrids? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2dWyumJ

I bought an LCP2, AMA

After many thoughts, YouTube videos, and excel spreadsheets I bought an LCP2 sort of on impulse. I went into my LGS looking for a Glock 10mm or 1911. I've been flirting with replacing my G43 for pocket carry as it is noticeable my pocket has something in it, but with getting this promotion I really don't want to risk anything. Our employee handbook does not mention weapons so it's sort of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.I walk in with cellphone in hand and excel pulled up to do pricing of how much it will cost me in terms of accessories like holsters and bullets for a total what a new gun will cost me. As I was eyeing up 1911s when the guy behind the counter hands a woman a small 380 saying it would be great. He says it's an improvement over the old version because it has a last round lock-back. My ears perked up and I interjected if that was an LCP2, you're goddamn right.$275 plus tax it is mine. They are the only LGS in my area that has any left. I have 2 mags, 200 FMJs, and 250 XTPs on the way. I'm going blasting next week, I will report back on how it shoots then. For less than $300 the quality is amazing. The trigger is very sweet (coming from a Glock). It disappears in my pocket; the G43 is conspicuous in the pocket if you look right at it but the LCP2 looks like a pack of gum or something. The back of the LCP2 grip is wider than the G43 but the slide is so much smaller at 0.75". The sights are just right and the slide release is easy to oper8.Next week when I get my ammo I'm going to clean the barrel, oil the rails, and put 400 rounds straight through it to see how reliable it is.For now AMA. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2etd7G8

Done with my second step towards acquiring my CCW in Ohio.

Ok guys. So I've submitted my paperwork to my local sheriffs office. What I want to gather is your opinion on what to carry. I already own my XD 40 which I use to carry before I moved to Ohio or should I purchase an LC9s Pro? I've had my eye on one and fired a range gun a few weeks and liked how it operated. My sheriffs office said I should have I have permit next week and I'm glad to be carrying again. Thanks guys. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2dW740E

Louisiana to Texas travel - observations and comparisons (law rant warning)

I've been carrying concealed for nearly 10 years, but I don't do a lot of traveling. I've gone around the Gulf Coast with my CCW a decent bit, but generally it is in circumstances were I don't have to be concerned with the finer points of the law (things like camping trips where I won't be going into any prohibited locations, or beach trips where I generally will be spending most of my time swimming and drinking, and thus not carrying anyway). If I take a plane anywhere, I don't bother bringing my gun, and just try to stay safe in other ways. This has not really been an issue for me, though, as when I travel by air it is usually to a place where I won't be able to carry (or mostly won't) anyway. But this weekend, I was going to Houston to visit some friends and go to the Renaissance Festival. The only other time I've been to Texas with my CCW was for a canoe trip in the woods, so this would be the first time I would have to be worried about going in and out of different establishments that may or may not have signs of one sort or another.Preparing for the trip, I brushed up on the Texas rules. The prohibited location lists are pretty similar for Texas and Louisiana, so the main difference that I was faced with is signage. I know that, as a sub, we LOVE debating signs. Well, in both LA and TX, signs do have the force of law, but the sign requirements are different.I'm not 100% sure which I like better between TX and LA. TX law puts more of a premium on signs, which means you see more of them. However, TX law is much clearer on what the signs need to look like/say, so it is much easier to actually know whether a place is prohibited or not than in LA, especially when dealing with bars.Louisiana's rule on bars is confusing to most people that I've met, even other lawyers who should know better. I hear people saying anything from "can't carry if any alcohol is sold period" (not true) to "any place that sells 51% or more alcohol" (also not true - this is the TX rule). The LA rule is that you can't carry in "Any portion of the permitted area of an establishment that has been granted a Class A-General retail permit, as defined in Part II of Chapter 1 or Part II of Chapter 2 of Title 26 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises." This requires looking beyond the CCW statute to the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) statute. A class A-General permit under our ABC law is defined in RS 26:71.1, and the most important thing to take from that statute for our purposes is "A Class A-General retail permit shall be issued only to an establishment where the state law provides that no person under the age of eighteen years is allowed on the premises." So, the easiest way to determine if you can't carry is whether or not minors are allowed on the premises. This is usually clearly marked with signs as well. There are other types of ABC permits, like Class A-Restaurant, Class C, and Class R, among other details, but the CCW statute only (and specifically) says "Class A-General," which is generally "real bars," not restaurants with bars inside, etc.HOWEVER, There was also some bullshit previously where the CCW permit didn't list anything but Class A-General places as prohibited, but the illegal carrying of weapons statute said it was illegal (RS 14:95.5). So the laws were in direct conflict. One would assume that having a permit would exempt you from all illegal carrying of weapons laws except as provided in the CCW statute, but the illegal carrying of weapons statute was changed in 2014 to exempt people carrying in places with Class A-Restaurant permits. However, this still leaves some uncertainty about the other type of ABC permits (which are less common), especially as this change implies that a CCW permit never exempted you from 14:95.5 in the first place. I'm not sure if they expect people to go into the place and then look at their ABC permit (which is supposed to be posted somewhere), to determine if they can go in there (essentially, you have to go in to find out if you can go in)?So as you can tell, this law is fucking confusing. The laws conflict/are inconsistent with themselves. Not as confusing as when people think we have the 51% rule, because I don't know how you would even be expected to know that short of asking to examine the profit and loss statements of the business. Texas has the 51% rule, BUT they also require that those places post signs which are clearly visible. I saw plenty of them when I was in Texas. So I kind of like the TX rule better, as it is much clearer to the carrier when a place is OK or not. The only thing that I don't like about the TX rule is that the penalty for violating that statute is much more severe than in Louisiana. However, this isn't necessarily a huge concern, because at least you have an easier time knowing if you're breaking the law than you do in Louisiana. So on the whole, as much as this sub hates signs, I personally like the TX emphasis on signs as opposed to the LA requirement that the permit holder figure out these weird nuances of the law somehow on their own. The signs make things clear at least. But there was one thing about the TX signs that was really aggravating to me. Since TX changed the law regarding open carry, now they have 30.07 signs prohibiting open carry in addition to the 30.06 signs prohibiting concealed carry. While I like that the signs are standardized and impossible to miss (places in Louisiana sometimes use tiny stickers at like the bottom or the door), I really don't like that the 30.06 and 30.07 signs look basically identical. The first place I stopped in Texas (gas station) made me think I was going to have to go back to the car and stow my gun just to pee and buy a bottle of water, before I read the entire sign and realized it was a 30.07 sign that only applied to open carry. There were several times when I approached the entrance to a place and had to read the fine print of the sign to figure out if it was a 06 or 07. This is pretty annoying. I get that some places might want to ban OC and allow CCW, but I would almost prefer an "all or nothing" type rule where any sign means no gun, just so you don't have to stand there reading the fucking signs to see what it says. That makes it pretty obvious your packing IMO. I'm sure if I lived in TX I'd get pretty accustomed to spotting the differences, but as a traveler it was pretty aggravating. On the whole, from a reciprocity standpoint, I think it is easier to travel from LA to TX than the other way around. I've been carrying in LA for almost 10 years, and I'm an attorney (though I've only been making this very deep study of our CCW law more recently, getting more confused as I go), and I'm still not 100% sure on the exact details of our laws. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2eUEU2S

Why open carry?

I was just at sheetz and saw a gentleman open carrying. I carry everyday but I always keep it under my shirt. The only time I don't keep my firearm under my shirt is when I'm out hunting. If you open carry please explain to me why? I don't see any benefit from open carrying as opposed to concealed carrying. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2f1GUZO

Need some help

I'm getting pretty frustrated with "gun free zones".

Let me start off by saying I live in Michigan. I work in some pretty rough areas of Detroit. I work exclusively at schools, and have a couple clients that I visit weekly. One particular client has has a history of gun violence since I've started visiting. Just last year, a group of thugs tried to rob a guy across the street from the school, he was armed, and fired at them. They ran between buildings of the campus, two of them clearly carrying firearms (we pulled the footage).Last Monday, a gentleman was shot and killed sitting in his car before heading to work in the morning. This was a block (about 50 yards) away. Again, we saw his wife driving him to the hospital when we pulled the footage. There have been several break-ins in broad daylight in the parking lot over the years. They've since added security to patrol the lot.I could go on about the violence in and around this area, but you get the point. Due to Michigan concealed laws, I cannot carry my weapon into the school. Technically speaking, I probably shouldn't even leave it in a lock box in my car while I'm parked in the lot. Aside from the risk of it being stolen, Michigan only allows for parents to have the firearm in their vehicle "while picking up or dropping off their children". There isn't much precedent for that situation, so I'm sure leaving it in my vehicle could be argued. Michigan also allows for CCW permit holders to "open carry" in schools. I would never do this. One, I'm sure the school would immediately ask me not to, and two, it would cause instant panic. So basically what this post is, is me venting about following the law, but leaving myself vulnerable in an area where I need personal protection most. I've considered carrying anyway. Then, if anything ever happened, argue that I was open carrying and my jacket accidentally covered it or something. It's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6, right? The shitty thing is, if there were options to apply for more permits that required extra background checks, additional training, etc. that then allowed me to carry in these so-called gun free zones, I'd totally pay whatever fee they wanted, and do it a heart beat. But I digress. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2eU1usi

This is the importance of a culture of armed self-defense. The mindset of members of cultures who do not have this right is evident in this post.

EDC LCP CUSTOM questions/concerns

So, I'm in the market for an every day carry subcompact "pocket pistol". No matter how hard I try I keep coming back the the awesome price point and reliable track record of the LCP line up. I've done all my research and I think the LCP Custom is the one for me. My one single concern is the height of the rear sight and it snagging on my holster or the inside of my pocket. Are there any Ruger LCP Custom carriers out there? Whats you're experience with this model? Are there any after market sights that could make this little pistol even better? Or is there a certain holster or carry option that eliminates this possibility?I'm new to carry but very familiar with handguns in general. If you could please take your time to share some information with me it would be much appreciated. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2er8ooq

AL reciprocity: have CCP but am not 21

As the title says, I have a CCP but am not 21. In the state of Alabama where I'm a resident, one is able to acquire a CCP at 18 just as long as you are able to pass a background check by your county sheriff's department. I live in an area where it is common that I might be in Florida or Mississippi at any given time where I know reciprocity is normally allowed BUT since I'm not the ripe old age of 21 would this affect the reciprocity? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ecXYeg

Going on a road trip with some buddies, one of which has had a run in with suicidal issues in the past, need advice.

This friend about 7 months ago turned himself in at a police station saying he was feeling suicidal, turns out he had just switched anti-depressant meds but nonetheless they brought him to a mental hospital and had him stay there for 48 hours. I have been a bit nervous about having him around guns ever since, especially since he had literally asked me that day how to buy a gun and I, unknowing that he was having suicidal thoughts, told him about it.I will absolutely be carrying during this road trip and we're all going to be sharing a hotel room together for a night. He should be packing his medication and whatnot but in the rare instance somehow he has those thoughts again, I don't want to have any of my firearms accessible to him. Should I sleep with my gun strapped on? I would normally consider a lockbox however the area we are sleeping in is a bit rough, and I would like to have my CCW accessible to me. Should I change my method of carry to maybe crotch carry for the trip to make it less accessible should he try to reach for it?He's a very good and old friend of mine so not bringing him on the road trip isn't really an option at this point, but I just want to make sure I'm taking any proper precautions necessary. I really don't think any of this will happen because he has been sane while on his meds, but this could technically be a life/death situation if he knows where my CCW is and suddenly has those thoughts pop up in his head again. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2eS8jus

What CW holster do you use riding sport bike? Need opinion on soft fiber with strap or a hard Kydex retention.

As the title says. I'd prefer some form of retention. Kydex seems like better holsters but I'm worried it will be a little too stiff for riding as I typically daily my sport bike so I can be in some awkward positions sometimes.I think I'll go with one of these two for my Px4 Subcompactkydexormaterial with strapI do feel like that's a dumb strap though. Thanks all!Edit: btw it's been a major PITA trying to find holsters in general for this gun. It's the SUB compact model which seems to be not so widely supported. And since I'm sure someone will ask- the gun is pretty okay. Its small heavy and bulky and I feel like your initial grip isn't very accurate (feel like it doesn't seat in my hand in the proper position immediately).Think I'm gonna go with the alien gear http://ift.tt/2eS6jCt: I live in a CC only state via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2eXPk4q

Stealthgear Onyx for Para 14.45

Im a huge fan of Stealthgears holsters but unfortunately they don't make one specifically for my Para 1911. They do however make them for colt/kimber/remington 1911s. Ruger LCP2 vs LCRX vs LC9S, and the value of a manual safety.

I've been tooling around with my 9mm PPX in an OWB holster for long enough by now. I've not had trouble yet getting "made" from the obvious printing through large untucked shirts, but I know it makes some uncomfortable. And the thing is substantial. So it's time for a proper concealable.I've beel liking the idea of the LCRX for a while now, a polymer CCW revolver with a hammer sounds awesome. Wouldn't have to babysit my ammo for bullet setback either. But now the LCR2 is out at like 60% of the revolver's price, and that seems to offer way more choices for best concealment. I'm a large guy at 6 feet and 270 lbs, so I imagine a pocket .380 could make the difference in printing less. And then there's the LC9S, which would allow me to use my existing ammo stash, but is still very concealable (just not LCP2 levels of concealment - again, I'm a big guy so I have fewer hiding places for an LC9 sized gun).LC9S also has a manual safety, which is something I thought might be really nice for a "pocket gun". What's the CCW community's thoughts on manual safety for guns of this purpose?Any other advice or considerations for which one to go with and why? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2f2dLvk

Pocket Carries with an LCP-sized 380 and J-Frames/LCR

I'm looking at replacing my G43 I currently pocket carry with something new. I'm debating between the new Ruger LCP2 and Ruger LCR in 357 (will use 38+P).I'm looking for experience from people that have similar sized guns and have pocket carried them both. I work in sales and dress business casual with sometimes throwing a suit jacket on.Right now I have a little printing that I have never worried about too seriously but right now where I'm at I want to minimize any risk. I figured an LCP-size would absolutely disappear and with a J-Frame all there would be just a bump from the cylinder. The LCR cylinder is almost 1.3" compared to the even 1" for my G43.How is the draw each when it comes to getting a good grip and clearing the pocket? What about carry ammo? 380 has seen a lot of improvement, but what about 38+P since a lot of JHP research has been in semi-auto calibers? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2eZzzI9

Question about Appendix holster placement

I'm in the process of figuring out how to successfully conceal a CZ P-01 in appendix position on a small body. I was pleasantly surprised to find that one of the main reasons I was struggling was my posture. Some redditors pointed out that I have anterior pelvic tilt, which was pushing the grip out and causing bad printing. I have been making a conscientious effort to correct this aspect of my posture and it actually feels better all around.Anyway, I noticed that when I put the holster to the left of the zipper, the potential for the grip to print is significantly lessened, and my draw stroke isn't really affected. Is there anything I need to be aware of in considering this holster placement? I haven't seen a lot of people doing it online. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2emlR0v

"Covert" magazine holders

Currently, I carry a spare magazine in a Remora mag holster in my pocket. However, my job (an engineer of sorts) pretty much requires me to have a multitool and flashlight on my belt. They came with black ballistic nylon pouches.I'm looking for a pouch that will hold a SP2022 magazine (pretty much the same dimensions as a Glock 19 mag), without obviously being a magazine holder.Pocket carrying works for now, but I'd like to regain use of the pocket for other things: before I had my CPL, it was where my car keys lived. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2eH5fUn

How would you respond to this workplace environment?

Hi Everyone. I'm in North Carolina. With regards to posted signs, "a permit does not authorize a person to carry a concealed handgun...on any private premises where notice that carrying a concealed handgun is prohibited by the posting of a conspicuous notice or statement by the person in legal possession or control of the premises."I work in a very large office building with numerous entrances. There is no "main" entrance. In the entrance that I go through (along with hundreds of other people), there are no "guns prohibited" signs posted at all. This includes the entire trip from home to my desk. Nothing says you can't carry. However, I made a wrong turn the other day and ended up taking a different entrance. I noticed a firearms prohibited sign. I never go this way and if I hadn't made the wrong turn, I would have never seen the sign at this other entrance. How would everyone here react? Would you continue to CC knowing that the perfectly valid entrance you take as well as hundreds of others does not have any postings? It almost seems like this doesn't meet the posting of a "conspicuous notice." via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2fqvRu6

Looking into first handgun. M&P9c VS. G43

I turn 21 mid next month, and while I have zero desire/intentions of going out for a "crawl" or having a drink at all, I do plan on starting the process for my LTC.I'd like to pick up the handgun at the start of the process for a couple of reasons:-home defense of my girlfriend and myself in our apt (I already have a fingerprint safe by our bed) -to get practice with the firearm I will be qualifying with. Some personal info:I'm a small guy. 5'6" rock climber, and cyclist as far as daily transportation goes. I also have a Miata with a tight fitting seat since it's my weekend toy as well as my daily. I will also be carrying on a college campus, which will include having to remove it and store it during the occasional voyage into a place where it is prohibited.I'm trying to decide between a G43 and a M&P9c. Now I know actually shooting them will have a large impact on my decision, but I'm curious as to anyone's input on the issues they have had with either, pros of either, general complaints/praise of one or both?Again, curious as to what y'all's input is. I'm getting close to making this purchase and really want to make sure I get as much info on this decision before hand. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2e7StgV

10mm black talon?

I went to a local gun store to get some hollow points for my hiking/hunting glock 40. they had the typical hornady and federal hollow points but also had a box of 20 black talons for $50. Not sure how well they perform, I know they're rare, but are they good? or should I but them as a collectible? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2eX1mJv

Looking for another pistol

I'm looking to purchase another pistol. I currently own a glock 19, ruger lcr, and a ruger SR1911. Looking for another 9mm or possibly a 22. Preferably a compact. Any suggestions on things you've shot or own that I should check out? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2e6AW8R

Failed Tactics in Panhandler Encounter?

I'm getting into my car, closing the door at a strip mall. For some reason that's when panhandlers like to approach. He says: "hey man" as he approaches.Decision point 1. Being the polite and good person that I am I stop closing the door, open it, get out, stand up and make eye contact and give him my attention. I also stereotype him as non-threatening because panhandlers tend to be very polite around here and quickly take "no" for an answer - this alone is likely a mistake. Should I have just completed closing the door, quickly start the engine and start pulling away instead? He's a stranger I owe him nothing. Did civility force me to take a less safe course of action? Could ignoring him piss him off and provoke conflict? I had no intention of giving him anything but I felt like I shouldn't ignore him.He keeps approaching and as he approaches he says something like: "could you please give me some money for food?" I shake my head he mumbles something and passes by REAL CLOSE.Once he passed me I realized that I let him get too close. It all happened really quickly and he closed the distance to the point where he could easily attack with hands or a knife. Luckily, he just passed me.Decision Point 2. Once I got out and stood up should I have done something to stop him from approaching too close to me? Like extend my hand and say something like: "stay back back man" and put a hand in my pocket to be ready to draw just in case? Again, civility, politeness and fear of being too paranoid/overreacting prevented me from doing this. Should I have done this? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2fp4wrY
