Would you be a liability or an asset in the face of tragedy?

I thought I'd share with you all some pretty major questions I've had to ask myself over this weekend. I've decided to take a class (foundation handgun) in an effort to expand upon my skills as an armed citizen and responsible gun owner. The class was basically comprised of drills and workshops - basic draw; speed-load; emergency load; ammo management; etc. The motto was "never accept in unloaded gun". Meaning, get comfortable carrying a loaded firearm.Anyways, a few topics came up during class that I thought was interesting. We learned that an expert-ranked shooter in LE only hits their target 18% (yes, 18%) of the time per mag. That roughly translates to 3 rounds per a standard 15 round mag. What's more, 85% of licensed, concealed carriers do not expand on their training outside of a standard license-required class and/or the occasional day at the range. Those stats scare me and it makes me wonder if I would be an asset, or a liability if something like what just happened in Nice, France or Orlando were to happen in my backyard. If well-trained LEOs can only hit a target 18% of the time in a high stress environment, how well would the average CCWer do in a similar setting?!Remember how massive of a responsibility you have as an armed citizen and if you haven't thought about finding classes that will help you grow as an armed civilian, please do. Going to your local gun club you can usually find institutions in your area that train foundation-level tactics all the way up to specialty and medical. Yes, I would highly recommend taking a medical class. Let's face it, if you're training to poke holes in people you should probably train to plug them, too.Safe and happy shooting!(shameless plug) if you're in the Michigan and surrounding areas, MDFI is a great institute for defensive firearms training. Dark Angel Medical is another wonderful company that provides excellent hands on medical training and the sale of D.A.R.K. packs.[edit] clarified the statistics. We were told that expert marksman only hit 18% of the time, not that they have to hit at least 18% of the time. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/29DGSBh
