Today I visited a new top-of-the-line gun store/range/restaurant that opened up last week and during the tour they showed us the video simulator that they have available for rental. During the tour I had mentioned that I am a teacher and they allowed me to try the school shooting simulator and it was a very interesting experience. The simulator is 5 screens with video that changes from perspective to perspective while you are armed with (in this case) a CO2 cartridge P226. I did not try it with the "you've been shot" buzzer that shocks you if you're hit. The acting by your fellow officer in this, as well as the acting by the students, shooters and victims is downright cheesy, it gets the point across nicely. The sim opens with entering the high school with shots ringing thru the halls and victims in various states of injury or death lining the floors. You clear the halls where your partner becomes a casualty and enter the library where many students escape towards you as a shooter enters and kills another student. I probably could have stopped it but did not act quick enough. It ends with a hostage using a student as a shield with a gun to her head. For my first shoot/dont shoot drill, I did quite well. I did not kill any innocents and the only thing I "failed" at was saving the hostage at the end. I missed the shot on the shooter, which caused him to kill the hostage and then himself. The employee warned that these things can be a very graphic and disturbing experience. While the fact that it was a simulator was not lost on me, it still did a good job of amping up the nerves and adrenaline in a way that I have not been able to replicate during my normal range time. All in all this was a very eye-opening experience. I encourage anyone who can to give it a go, it is something that can be great for training without having to go thru a real world experience yourself.Shout out to TNT Firearms in Murray, Utah. You have a lovely facility and I can't wait to come shoot sometime. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/29PONB5
