I told some of y'all in here that I was working to get Maine reciprocity here in Texas a while back, since Maine issues non-resident permits for any law-abiding adult citizen over 18.I wrote Governor Abbott a couple months back regarding the matter since he has the power to form agreements with other states honoring their permits. I got this response: http://ift.tt/2e2JoF9 they said that our Gov cannot form an agreement by law because Maine doesn't use the NCIC or III checks when they issue their handgun permits. However, I wrote the Maine governor's office recently and got this back from them: http://ift.tt/2drr8mo and they do in fact actually use the NCIC and III checks when they issue permits!Which means that by law our governor is authorized to give reciprocity to them, and has the discretion to allow those over 18 (even though TX doesn't issue under 21) to carry with a Maine non-resident permit. This is very big considering a bill that would've lowered the age never saw the light of day in the public safety committee here, so this gives us another fighting chance to have a pathway to legally carry here at 18 or older. If anyone else is interested, I would greatly appreciate it if you would write our governor here in support of a reciprocal agreement with maine that also honors licenses held by adults between ages 18-20. This would be one step closer to a huge victory for us Texans getting our 2A rights back. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2doLFgb
