How much does CCW "advice" discourage people from carrying?

I've personally known two people who were put off concealed carry because of the impression that they "needed" thousands and dollars and weeks and weeks of "training" for it to even be worthwhile. Not to mention they "need" to carry extra mags, a BUG, a light, first aid kit, kitchen sink (for tactical dish washing), etc...I'm not at all discouraging or discounting advanced training and good equipment, I'm just wondering if pushing these things as borderline "requirements" (hey, trainers and companies have to sell their wares) puts people off by making the barrier to entry seem artificially high.Anyway, just random thoughts on my day off. What do you think? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2vPkAsD
