Do you have a preference m, a gun with thumb safety, or without?

I did not notice if this was asked or debated. I am looking into purchasing the M&P 2.0 Compact and saw they offer with thumb safety and without. I feel that the thumb safety would make it safer but wasn’t sure. I’ll be heading to a range to shoot first and see if I even like the gun but was curious.P.S. I honestly have only ever used rifles and hunted. I do not have much experience with pistols other then my fathers .357 Magnum. Any guidance would be much appreciated.
