What are your thoughts on using a cellphone asap to win the "Race to the Courthouse"?

In this video this guy recommends that you should call 911 asap after using your gun for self defense. Why? To avoid the criminal from calling 911 first and claiming to be the victim. He claims that cops will generally believe whoever called 911 first.What are your thoughts on this? How soon is too soon to go digging for your phone? Should you retreat to a safer location first?
