I just took boxing at 18 (little bit late, I know) and want to get better at defending myself. Throughout my life, due to my small stature & nerdiness I was bullied a lot, and pretty much had hard time either speaking up or challenging someone who looked more stronger or intimidating than me. To make it worse, in our country we have this alpha male syndrome where things are dealt with knuckles more frequently than by word & you can meet aggressive meatheads anywhere. I'm tired of feeling inferior & want to be able to speaking up with anyone without having a fear of getting beaten or humiliated.
So far I joined a boxing gym, but still unsure about how can I turn into a better fighter & overall wondering how effective is boxing for self-defense (by self-defense I mean against unarmed & single opponent). So, can you lighten up me with whether if it's efficient or that I'm just wasting my time.
