Walking my dog around school?

So I currently live about .2 miles from an elementary school, which is about 1000ft.I will be getting my permit in about a month, and I know that schools and 1000ft around schools is a gun free zone. I also know that private property within those limits are not considered gun free zones.I walk my dog around the neighborhood, so the path I take, usually takes me around the sidewalk that goes along the perimeter of the school.Am I breaking the law just by walking outside of my house with my gun?
