Question regarding background check for CCW

Here's the situation. I won't explain why I feel the need to CC since it's the same as all the rest of you. I'm currently in the pre-stages of getting my CCW, browsing firearms, classes, prices, etc. I came across some info regarding the background check that gives me pause. When I was a kid (15-17 y/o), I was treated for depression. This included seeing a psychiatrist and at one point included a trip to the ER because I was emo AF and cut my wrist so I got a trip to the hospital for "suicidal ideation". I was never committed, never had anything to do with a judge, no adjudication whatsoever, was voluntary the whole 8 hours I was in the ER. This incident was much more than 5 years ago. Now, this has come back to bite me in the ass. I've tried to join the military, twice, and both times was denied due to this incident when I was a teenager, even after I was delcared "fit for duty" by a psychiatrist. Now, I know, the big red flag is waving as someone with a history of depression trying to carry a gun. So here's where I'm at now:I've worked as a crisis behavioral health specialist with a municipal fire department, and as part of a crime analysis unit with a police department. Passing background checks is no big deal, obviously. I currently work as an EMT in a metro area that's busy as hell. Needless to say, I got over my depression from my pre-18 years at some point and now I consider a pretty high-stress career to be rewarding and fun (been an EMT for like 3 years now). I sleep with a shotgun next to my bed and am no stranger to firearms (been to the range quite a bit, gone shooting with friends with everything from an FN-FAL to a Colt Commander to an 1867 Springfield muzzle-loader). So to address the elephant in the room, if I was going to shoot myself due to a mental breakdown I'm relatively certain that it would have happened by now. However, will that incident that precluded me from joining the armed services stop me from passing the NICS? How should I fill out the form when the time comes? Am I going to have to go through an appeals process in order to get my CCW? This is in Arizona, btw, and I know we don't have to have a CCW to carry but I think the benefits of having one, especially when traveling, are worth it. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2fQSDqy
