My doctor asked if I was "packin a firearm."

I've only had my permit for a few days. I just left my follow up appointment after a tonsillectomy. I joked with the doctor that I had a whole speech prepared for him (because tonsillectomy recovery as an adult is very painful). He laughed and said "you're not packing a firearm are you?" I was totally caught off guard, but I laughed and said "yeah, right." It was just strange to have someone ask me outright, when for my whole life until a few days ago it would have just been a joke.That's all.
