Implications of carrying in places you're not supposed to?

Hi folks,I want to preface this with the following: this is not meant to encourage carrying in places that you are not allowed to. This is purely to discuss the implications of doing so such as legal consequences.Alright, so I had a thought today related to the title of this post. With universities being a high-density area, they are likely targets for some kind of violence. Most (all?) universities do not allow one to carry on campus. Campuses rely on law enforcement to protect the classrooms, but there isn't a cop in every building let alone classroom.Let's suppose that there is the unfortunate situation of a school shooting. Let's suppose also that a student who was illegally carrying on campus neutralized the threat, saving lives in the process. What would be the legal outcome of this situation? As far as I know there isn't a case to reference on this. My thought process is that since lives were saved, the student would receive a slap on the wrist. But I also know that there was a law broken, so I could also see the student serving time or getting probation or something. To the more knowledgeable among you, what would happen in this scenario? Would it depend on state laws such as SYG? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2u6d0ap
