International Cherry Blossom FestivalHere is an updated press release from the festival's vice president. The Cherry Blossom Festival will not be posting "No Weapons" signs at Central City Park or at the Street Party this year, festival officials said Friday.Festival Vice President Stacy Campbell told WMAZ a couple of weeks ago that guns won’t be allowed in the park or at the street festival. Later that day she told us festival officials are reviewing all polices for the 2017 festival to ensure compliance with state law."The Cherry Blossom Festival will not be posting no weapons signs at Central City Park or the Street Party," Festival Board Chair Stacy Ingram said in a statement Friday. "The organization is complying with the state law relative to this matter."Last spring, a Macon family was detained and then escorted from the property for openly carrying weapons at the park. The festival has banned lawful carry every year. They were going to again this year. Myself and another member of Georgiacarry.org began contacting the Sheriff of the county that the festival resides in. When we were asked about the nature of the call we answered truthfully, he then began dodging us. I tried contacting him on multiple occasions and the other member did as well. Multiple emails and voice messages. We wanted to inquire as to whether the Sheriff would arrest anyone for lawfully carrying into the festival. Reason being, the festival and street party takes place in a public park and on a public street. Both are lawful to carry onto and state preemption prevents banning of lawful carry. This other member went above and beyond and began contacting the festival officials and making open records requests. He demanded to see where in the law it stated they could ban lawful carry on public land.Their reversal of their stance is now released. Feel free to carry at the International Cherry Blossom Festival now people! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2mL0Wvp
