Is a CCW for me?

I apologize if this is the wrong place for this, and if it is too long. I've owned long guns for a while, taken a safety class too. Never wanted a pistol. I've had a couple of close calls, one of which where I was beaten with lexan knuckles and stomped by two guys. Considering CCW and training, but have some concerns. In the above instance, my gun could've been taken from me. However, I worry about what will happen next time, especially if I am with my girlfriend or someone I care about. Any advice appreciated.
