Went to my local urgent care to get something for my bronchitis (obligatory meme). and I saw that the building had a no weapons sign out front. Here's a partial picture of the sign. Partial because the sign was partly behind a hedge. The full text of the sign is:No Weapons ConcealedOr Otherwise Are AllowedOn WellStar PropertyExcept Law Enforcement PersonnelBy Authority OfWellStar Management.Georgia Law Prohibits All Weapons(Firearms & Sharp-Edged)In Wellstar Facilities(Georgia Code 16-11-127).(For anyone who doesn't know, Wellstar is a private non-profit. They aren't a government, and this urgent care center is not a psychiatric hospital or nuclear power plant.)My read of Georgia Code 16-11-127 (at least the version available via LexisNexis) does not make any provision for Wellstar property, doctor's offices, hospitals (except mental hospitals). I also don't see anything suggesting signs like this have force of law.The only right I see to ban weapons (I am not a lawyer) is just a right to kick people out:(c) A license holder or person recognized under subsection (e) of Code Section 16-11-126 shall be authorized to carry a weapon as provided in Code Section 16-11-135 and in every location in this state not listed in subsection (b) or prohibited by subsection (e) of this Code section; provided, however, that private property owners or persons in legal control of private property through a lease, rental agreement, licensing agreement, contract, or any other agreement to control access to such private property shall have the right to exclude or eject a person who is in possession of a weapon or long gun on their private property in accordance with paragraph (3) of subsection (b) of Code Section 16-7-21, except as provided in Code Section 16-11-135. A violation of subsection (b) of this Code section shall not create or give rise to a civil action for damages.Obviously you all aren't lawyers, and can't give legal advice but do I seem to be correct in my observation that this sign is misleading and just plain wrong? Or am I possibly missing some recent change to Georgia law? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2i1ECbJ
