A Drive by shooting happened basically right in front of me

So I was at a friend of mines house with my brother in law hanging out front having a few beers. Being the responsible gun owner I put my firearm away inside my friends house since I was drinking. We were out front and he was showing me a few things that he has done to his house like laying a brick driveway and installing a sprinkler system which we were looking at and talking about. Now across the street is an empty lot and to the right of that is a house where there were several people hanging out partying listening to music. So we were in his driveway talking about his new sprinkler system when a car passed by on the road then hit his brakes followed by 6 consecutive shots. The people partying scattered and ran ducked dived all over the place thats when it clicked in my mind it wasn't fireworks. I mean it sounded like a .22 or .25 small caliber gun. When It realized it was a drive by I ducked down and ran to my buddys porch which there were no steps because he was in the process of installing new stairs. I Micheal Jordaned my big self up onto the porch while my friends wife opened the front door with eyes wider than dinner plates and asked me "Wheres Robert?" To which I replied "IDK hes out here somewhere". Out of self preservation I instictly ran inside to grab my firearm and came back out to check on my friend and brother in law who were making their way inside. I then heard 3 loud booms which seemed to be shotgun blasts which I assume was the "partiers" returning fire. My buddys wife was on the phone with the police basically having a panic attack which kinda made the movielike situation surreal in that moment. 8 cop cars show up I would say 7 minutes later and took statements from everybody there. In retrospect I feel bad for leaving my friend outside but that fight or flight kicked in once I found out it was gunfire. What a wild situation and there are several valuable lessons I learned from all this. I dont think anybody got shot but I'm not sure, but the police didn't act like it was that big of a deal which is rather surprising. Btw this happened in Central Florida. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2h0Duqm
