So I've shot long guns for a number of years and am pretty comfortable around firearms (I've built 3 ARs at this point). I haven't shot handguns nearly as much though, and I've never conceal carried before. I'm looking into buying my first pistol and getting my CCW permit, and am looking for some input. At this point I'm largely debating between a CZ P01 and a M&P Shield in 9mm. The P01 is the gun I really want. I like the DA/SA system, it just feels great in my hand, and the compact size and 14+1 capacity will allow me to comfortably use it as a more general sidearm to my rifles. My main concern with a P01, however, is being able to conceal it. From my prospective of never having concealed before, it seems a little large, and I'm worried I'll print hard or have to wear a winter coat all the time to hide it. Is that a realistic concern, or do I just need to get a good holster? I'm 6'1" and 170lbs if that helps. My reasons for looking at the Shield are basically because they're small and inexpensive. From shooting some, they feel good in my hand, but not great. I'm not worried about printing with a Shield, and with all the rebates and sales going now I can get the gun, holster, a light, and spare mags for under $500 total. My main hesitation is the Shield's small size and 8+1 capacity seem to limit its function pretty severely as a sidearm/all but a CCW gun.So given all that, what thoughts or comments do yall have for me? How hard is it for a newbie to actually carry a compact? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2pOzlwz
