See now as a legal gun owner and daily carrier, this is one of my fears. I’m not a man of color myself but my wife is Hispanic and I am lucky enough to have a job and an income that allows us to own nice (not over the top) cars and still have visible tattoos (mine are on my hands by now and neck eventually) so sometimes I do feel I get “stereotyped” to a degree by police. Now back to my original point, IMO getting car jacked is a more likely scenario than being a victim at a mass shooting or a bank robbery gone wrong... so when driving my car for short periods (under 30mins) I usually just tuck my outer shirt underneath the grip of my pistol which I carry in the waistband appendix position. So the gun is highly visible (which is 100% legal) to someone looking in my car at my waist but also highly accessible if someone tries to make bad moves (instead of fumbling around with my shirt and seatbelt, etc). Then on longer trips I bring my old canvas case and jam it between my drivers seat and center console and it holds the holster tight enough for me to pull the gun straight out no problem. But once again, very visible. Now I’m not a fucking idiot and I wouldn’t be fingering the bang switch when the officer approached but still I often ponder what my actions would be to make sure I have the safest experience possible. This is how I’ve played it out in my head. If anyone has any critiques I’d love to hear them... unless it’s to lock my gun in the console or the glove of or some other useless shit.-Roll down all 4 windows so they can clearly see inside the car-Hands open and on steering wheel-Immediately inform officer in a polite and tactful way that I am legally carrying a fire arm and verbally explain to him where it is and answer any other questions he may have-Other than that the plans to just not make any sudden movements and to verbally announce any movements I may have to make (like grabbing my wallet or registration)Edit: sorry for the long and prob piss poorly formatted post. I’m on mobile. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2pCy9MF
