How do you load the +1 round into your chamber.

There's two methods I can think of:Insert a full mag, chamber a round, drop the mag, top off the magazine, reinsert the now full magazine.With the magazine out drop a round in the chamber, drop the slide, insert full magazine.I've been told that method 2 can damage the extractor.
