Warning shots?

Currently having an argument with someone on another forum about warning shots.He thinks that firing a warning shot to get someone to back away is perfectly fine because then everyone goes home safe. Says that he saw someone put a round into the ground to stop 5 guys from coming at him and because of that, he believes in it.My opinion is that innocent people can, and have been killed by warning shots, and it's not even close to being an option for me. What if there's something in the ground, something metallic, and the round ricochets? Yes, it's a VERY low chance, but you can Google how many people have been killed by ricochets and strays.If I back away, give you verbal commands, present my firearm, and you STILL keep coming at me? I'm dropping you. I'm not firing into the ground, or beside you, or in the air. I'm not risking hurting someone else because I feel bad for you.
