The reasoning behind it is sound, but the circumstances are still frustrating.I have a job that requires a Top Secret clearance. Most new hires don’t have security clearances when we start, so we are given interim clearances and limited job responsibilities for the first 2-3 years, until our TS clearance is approved. If we are put under additional investigation for any reason during this time, it can cause a big delay in our clearance process. Any delay in our clearance is grounds for termination, under the logic that it will be too expensive to keep an employee on indefinitely, who may not even be able to perform their duties if their clearance is denied.I just found this out because a few weeks ago one of my coworkers was robbed at knifepoint. He wasn’t carrying but he managed to disarm his aggressor and used the knife against him. I was shocked to find out he was fired over this incident, so I asked around a bit and found out it was actually the second incident like this to occur. A couple years ago, another coworker used his CCW in self defense while being robbed at gunpoint and was also let go.I still have another year or so before my security clearance is approved, so until then I’ll be treading a very fine line. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2uWmpH4
