I had my first violent confrontation while carrying the other night. I've been running over it a thousand times in my head and I'd like to hear some opinions on if I handled it right or if I should have done something differently.I was coming out of the subway heading towards the steps when I saw a guy in front of me bending over picking at his sock and different guy pointing his phone's camera at him. As I walked passed him up the steps I heard him yell "hey you!" I slowed down a little and looked to see if he was talking to me. As I turned around he ran at me, he was about 5-10 feet away from me. As he was running he pull his arm up and when he got to me he swung the knife at me leg, but the swing wasn't strong and I was able to block his arm. I was about 5 steps up so he would have hit my leg. There was maybe a second between me seeing the knife and him swinging. I think the guy was under the influence of something because he was stumbling a little before I walked passed him and I was able to block his arm from hitting me (I'm not the strongest). Once I blocked his swing I turned up the steps and ran. Once i got up the steps I found a police car and went to tell him. He told me his partner was eating then casually said he'd check it out (I was kind of frustrated he didnt seem concerned). Then I went on my way.A few things I have been thinking about: 1. My headphones were in, I was not fully aware of my surroundings. 2. The guy on his phone was filming and laughing during the entire encounter. I did not know if he had a weapon and he was next to me on the steps when the guy swung at me. 3. If I had drawn my weapon the guy was within arms reach and might have tried harder to stab me. 4. As I ran I turned my back to both of them. 5. Would drawing have escalated the situation? 6. I was able to escape so I shouldn't have needed to draw, right?Should I have drawn or was running the right thing to do? Please be critical with me, I want your honest opinions. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2EAEr1o
