I could use some advice on how I can carry legally the next year or so while I live and work in Tennessee. Obviously, I should talk to a lawyer but before I do that, I want to see if anyone has been in a similar situation/if this is even remotely possible. Here is my situation:I currently live in Tennessee but grew up in NC and my mom lives there. I am planning on living in Tennessee for the next year before (hopefully) starting medical school. Right now I have a TN drivers license and my car is registered here. I got the drivers license because I really wanted to buy a handgun for home defense (good idea anywhere but I go to school in Memphis...so extra good idea). Now the problem: I have realized I need to change my residency back to NC so I can apply in-state to UNC Medical School (unneeded detail: UNC is a much better med school than UTHSC and I am not trying to stay in Memphis for four more years). I signed up awhile ago for a TN concealed carry class for this week, before I realized I needed to switch my residency back to NC. I will go back to NC in mid-May to get a NC drivers license and register/title my car there. It is my understanding that as soon as I get a NC drivers license and establish residency back in NC that my (basically brand new) TN permit will be invalid. I am planning on getting a NC concealed carry permit and taking a class there in May, but the current wait times are at least 3 months...and normally 4-5 months in practice. I do not want to go unarmed in Memphis for 5 more months. I think the Florida permit will cover me in TN for at least 6 months according to this. Thank you so much for any advice y'all can give. Sorry this post is kind of long winded, I had too much coffee this morning.TL;DR: Living in TN now, working in TN for the next year. Re-establishing NC residency in the next month to apply to grad school. Planning on: cancelling my upcoming TN CCW class, getting a non-resident permit ASAP (I am thinking Florida but would love any suggestions), and then, in May, starting the long process for getting a NC permit. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2uSBERz
