Do you prefer a single kydex holster or to separate the gun and magazine for AIWB?

I've seen plenty of AIWB holster rigs where the mag carrier is attached to the rest of the holster (such as on the T.Rex Sidecar, or the T5 Hitchhiker). My question is, do you prefer the mag carrier to be attached or separate? Why?Additionally, why is the mag so far from the weapon, specifically on the Hitchhiker? I'd think you'd want the mag fairly close, as it wont affect the grip/draw, and it would help keep a tighter package. Any insights?Thanks ahead of time for any insights and opinions.
