Has anybody here used their gun in self defense and if so how much of a pain was it to get it back from evidence/did the police confiscate it?

I think the title sums it up nicely. I saw somebody bring this up as a (downvoted) comment on why he didn't carry a nice gun and I just thought I'd ask if anybody has experience with it. It probably won't effect what I carry and it definitely won't effect my decision on drawing, but I was still curious if anybody had experience with it. via /r/CCW http://bit.ly/2ET6LQa
