Sorry if this is a lot, just have a lot on my mind after an incident that occurred this evening on my way home from work.Firstly I live in Orange County, CA and I was on my way home from work when this happened. I was waiting at a traffic light to turn left and there was a car in front of me. The light turned green to turn left and the guy in front of me didn't move at all. I waiting a couple of seconds and since he still didn't move I bumped my horn to let the guy know. He drove forward for a second and then slammed on his brakes and started flipping me off. Next thing he turns left into the two lane road and goes directly into the left lane and slows down. He was obviously waiting for me to drive by him. To try and avoid confrontation I went by him in the right lane trying to pull away from him, but next thing I know he is speeding up next to me on my left and keeping pace. I didn't want to look at him and engage him yelling or whatever it is. Finally, he has been next to me for a few seconds so I look over at him and he is busy screaming his head of pointing a gun right at my face. I slammed on the brakes and slowed way down and he kept going, slowly, and pulled into a neighborhood about a 1/4 mile up the street.I was pretty shaken and my first reaction was to drive up to his car to try and get the license plate #, but I didn't want to go near the guys car. I got home and called the cops to report the incident, but I didn't have much more information other than a description of the car and the guy. They basically said thanks for the information, but there is nothing they can do other than keep a look out for someone of that description/car description. There are two things I keep coming back to.I am kicking myself for not trying harder to get the plate #. My biggest worry is that this lunatic is going to do the same thing to someone else and maybe worse and I could have done more to stop him. In the moment the only thing I could think of is getting away from the guy.I am currently trying to go through the convoluted process of getting a CCW in CA and this whole situation made me more frustrated than ever. This occurred in Irvine, which according to the FBI, has the lowest rate of crime in the ENTIRE COUNTRY. I applied for my CCW about six months ago and I still have to wait another three months before my interview with the sheriff department. There I have to plead my case as to why I deserve a chance to get a CCW. If they approve me through the interview I have to go get printed, do a training course, have a house inspection by a police officer, and then go into a second interview. A friend of mine who just received his permit told me it took him an additional 4 months from the date of his initial interview. The guy who pulled a gun on me today was obviously nuts and I can't stop thinking about, "what if he followed me home?" or, "what if he got out of his car right there?" I would have been absolutely helpless like a sitting duck and there is literally nothing I could do in those situations because the CA gov needs about $600 and a year to decide whether or not I am eligible or worthy enough to defend myself.I am not sure if there is anything more I could have done in the situation, but I can't help but feel I should have been more proactive or maybe done something differently. What would you have done in the situation? The thing I can't get over is how something so simple like honking to let someone know the light is green turned into me having a gun pulled on me. It just blows my mind how quickly the situation can change. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2qQC5IU
