TLDR at bottom.I just wanted to share with r/CCW what happened to me at the range yesterday with my 9mm Shield. When I carry my Shield (have had and carried it for 2+years) I carry the 8 round extended mag as a spare without the grip sleeve on it because it tends to come out of place and can cause issues with seating the mag. The malfunction occurred when I seated the mag in the gun and gave it a good smack on the bottom like I always do with whatever magazine fed weapon I happen to be using. The magazine over inserted and the ejector got stuck in the rear of the magazine body between the top round and the rear portion of the feed lips. I had to yank the mag out of the gun really hard and the slide wouldn't move forward. I was able to replicate the problem two times after the initial wtf moment.I have always done this when using that mag and have never had this happen before. I'm now considering using an epoxy to permanently attach the grip sleeve to prevent over insertion. The pistol functioned perfectly with both mags before and after this happened. The only other time I've had a malfunction with this pistol was with steel cased wolf ammo when an empty case got stuck in the barrel. I had the same problem that day with my %99.99999 reliable Glock 19. I no longer shoot steel cased in my weapons.I know some of you also carry a Shield with the extended mag without grip sleeve so I wanted to share because I have never heard of this happening before and thought some people might not be aware of this malfunction either. Thought it was just a 1911 thing.TLDR --- Shield extended mags can be over inserted and cause malfunctions. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2f2osjh
