Does a gun belt really benefit from inserts?

So I know there's a belt made with a piece of steel inside, I forgot the company name, and I've seen another belt supposedly with kydex inside. Are these feature just selling points or do they actually help? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2gqElif
