How can I explain purchasing and carrying a handgun to my grandpa?

I turn 21 on Monday, and my grandpa keeps asking me why do I need to purchase and carry a handgun. It started a few weeks ago, and he keeps bringing it up more and more often. I've tried several different way of telling him I need it for the same reason he does, personal protection. I've tried telling him that I think it's irresponsible for an adult to rely on someone else for their personal protection. I've tried telling him that I think choosing to own and carry a handgun is part of exercising my right to life and liberty. I've even tried putting it as bluntly as possible by saying that I want to die of old age, not at the hands of some thug on the street or some nutjob who gets off by killing people. Every time I get the same answer, 'But why do you need it?'I know he doesn't have anything against firearms, or carrying them. Hell, we took the class together and he has his permit already. I've tried asking him what he means, but I can never get a straight answer out of him. Is there something I'm missing? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1TdI833
