Recently received my NY Pistol Permit, am I lucky? Or just a law abiding citizen?

Hello everyone, after reading everyone's stories I decided to share mine, this is my first post... ever. So I am a resident of Greene county NY and I recently was issued my Pistol Permit, what a ride. I received my paperwork from the sheriffs office for $3 in September of 2015. After letting it sit on my desk for a little over a year I decided to sit down and finally have at it. It took me a couple of months to get all the information and have my friends return their character reference questionnaires notarized. (How long have they known me?, why do I need a handgun?, etc.) I handed my application packet in to the sheriffs office in mid January 2017 and was called at the end of April to set up my appointment with the judge, after a quick 10 min interview he told me to walk over to the sheriffs office and they would issue me my permit for "SPORTING USE ONLY". I asked about having this restriction revoked as I would like to carry everyday (because why the fuck not). He informed me I'd have to take an 8hr live fire training course and send in completion of the class along with a letter stating why I feel the need to have an unrestricted license. (Uhhh, idk, bc it's my god given right?) So I head over to the sheriffs office and get my permit for 15$, not too bad right? The real pain in the ass is every time I want to buy a gun with the Permit I have to have my permit "amended" for 3$ and pay for a gun coupon 2$ and I have to drive an hour to the store buy it then an hour to the sherriffs office to get the coupon and then an hour back to pick it up and then an hour home. Buying a Pistol in the state of NY is one of the biggest pain in the asses ever, it's a full day event. Anyway, I thought this day would never come as I was deterred by the length of the application when I first got it. But that seems to be their reasoning for making the application such a process, to deter people. I'm ecstatic to have the Permit and I just can't wait to get that restriction lifted. FYI first purchase was a Sig Sauer 1911 carry stainless, one of the smoothest pistols ive ever shot. (My uncle collects, so I've shot my fair share) via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2qGBd6C
