Regarding the Policy of Discussing Mass Shootings

Yesterday’s decision to implement the 24-hour halt on the discussion of the Orlando mass-shooting was done in keeping with the same practice following the UCLA shooting two weeks ago. At the time of the UCLA shooting, we received enormous support. /r/CCW has always had a similar policy for recent shootings. While this has evolved over time, it's now apparent that the evolution is not in the direction that the community wants.Following yesterday's mass-shooting in Orlando, we received enough criticism on the temporary halting of the discussion of the Orlando mass-shooting to warrant reevaluating this practice. The temporary halt on the discussion of the shooting had nothing to do with censorship or political ideology. The Moderation Team has yet to receive any communication from moderators of other subreddits regarding censoring anything, nor have we received any communication from reddit.com or the Administration ("Admins") about this. After lengthy discussions and taking everyone’s opinions very seriously, we have decided to remove this practice. We will continue to enforce the sidebar rules. The Moderation Team via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1XS5JrE
