Present at a gunfight today

I was at a busy park today for a family birthday party and a couple of cars pulled up and opened fire on other people approximately 450 feet away from me with one or more people shooting back. By the time we realized what was going on, the vehicles were speeding away. While trying to make sure everyone was safe and accounted for, the cars came back around the block and started round two before leaving again. Probably 20-30 shots fired altogether. No fatalities, but there was property damage and it looked like one of the guys in the car may have been shot in the leg. We left ASAP, but I'm a bit shaken. It was really a wake up call because my first instinct did not at all involve making sure I was ready to draw my CCW if necessary. AFAIK no shots were fired in my direction, and the shooters were well out of any reasonable range for my CCW. I don't think that drawing or firing would have been the right choice and I am glad I got my family out of there, but it was too close and I wasn't ready if it had been closer. What are the best ways to get your mind past the shock of a surreal situation to be ready to react appropriately? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1U8kwLR
