What to do, holster-wise, when I can't carry?

This might be a dumb question, but I've bought my first ITB holster, and the guy at the gun store suggested I wear jeans/pants a size too big to accommodate the firearm and the holster. That's all fine and good, but what do I do when I have to leave my firearm in the car for work or something? Remove the firearm and the holster and just cinch my belt up really tight? Leave the holster by itself and just do the same thing? Also, guy also recommended a tucked-in t-shirt between the skin and firearm, AND a concealment shirt, like a 501. I live in Texas, and that might be okay in the Winter and Fall, but that could be pretty warm in the Spring and Summer! Would it cause a problem rubbing against skin?
