Need your opinion: Open Vs. Concealed Carry when backpack hiking?

In FL, it is legal to open carry on Wildlife Management Area Units when engaging in recreational activities (hunting, fishing, hiking, etc.). My Wife and her mother are going on a 3 day 2 night backpacking trip alone. My wife and I conceal carry everyday, and to be honest, even if we could open carry in public I would never do it. However, my wife and I believe she should open carry during this backpacking trip to warn anyone who might get any bad ideas (not to mention walking miles with a big backpack on would be uncomfortable to conceal carry). Her Mom on the other hand, is strongly against that and thinks they should conceal carry for the "element of surprise" (I guess she's using a fanny pack to keep her gun in, hopefully with some kind of holster). This may not be a huge argument but I did want to get some of your opinions to see what you think. Again, my wife and I strongly believe she should open carry. I've read some stories on here that when things got suspicious, people went to grab their gun and the perpetrator would back off. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/20fKKMA
