First time flying with a weapon question

I have a late flight tonight out of dfw and I am wanting to take my firearm with me. I have read tsa's and American's policies but I have a question.I have a small suitcase which has a hard plastic shell with the only soft part being the zipper tape. Would this be sufficient for the "locking hard sided container" if I just stuck my firearm in a zippered pocket on the inside and locked the suitcase with a non-tsa lock?The other option is putting my firearm in my Hornady arm lock box and then locking the suitcase with a tsa approved lock.
