Just food for thought, how comparatively close in ballistics performance the best 2 loads IMO from 3.5" 9mm compare to the best 2 SD loads from 2" .357 Mag from LuckyGunner Tests

Just something to know, as they are so comparable.Numbers are pretty close when you compare the best 2 rounds IMO based on data in both the standard pressure and Hotter loads. Obviously revolvers get the benefit of Chamber and forcing coin area to increase pressure that isn't measured in barrel length. So 3.5" Auto, is similar to a 2"-2.5" revolver. Without talking about capacity, and other factors.....3.5" 9mm on par with snubbie .357...with prob less recoil and faster follow up shots. 3" barrel then .357 starts taking over a bit and more and more with increase barrel length and weight to handle recoil.9mm 124 gr HST 1135 fps 18'3" .61 355 ft. lbs. of muzzle energy (yes this is the round you should carry in your Shield)9mm 124 gr Plus P Golden Saber 1170 fps 18.2" .66 377 ft. lbs. MEUnder 3.5" barrels I like standard pressure HST, 3.5" or longer I like the Plus P NON-bonded Golden Saber (bonded perhaps better for backup mags or bottom of HiCap mags in theory). No Gold Dots do not penetrate as far, nor expand as much as either HST or Golden Saber. Penetration is King, Expansion Queen..357 2"- 125 gr Golden Saber 1096 fps 18.7" .62 333 ft. lbsHotter .357 2" - 140 gr XPB HP - Barnes VOR-TX 1169 fps 17.1" .66 425 ft. lbs (recoil, & follow up times going to depend more on weight of firearm and shooter skill?) Anyone that has shot these in smaller revolvers please chime in......(this or the Federal version in a 3"-4" barrel starts to take over with total energy and higher ends of penetration if like most experts you are fine with that).Other thoughts. 9mm best for most I think this forum agrees (btw 7.62 Tak PPU HP perform perfect in two diff. tests now 16" Penetration). While .357 Sig may work good most of time do to higher energy/velocity (like .357 mag 125 gr. SJHP and 9BPLE did in real world reputations), it often is too shallow of penetration that is really desired because the HPs made for it over-expand/fold back/open too fast. 10mm or .41 Mag loaded in Medium range, not the too mild or heavy loads, seems best to me strictly handgun ballistically speaking (without going into wildcat cartridges) though obviously require higher shooter skill to have decent accuracy and split times with such. When looking at couple gel tests with .41 mag (Charter Arms may make a .41 Mag Pug, Glock 29 SF both would be easy carry), and comparing gel tests to very similar 10mm loads, and looking through old forums.....Dutch loading mild recoiling 175 gr. Silvertips with bit stiffer Underwood 210 gr. HP seems like that would be way to go to get decent double tap and then transition times. While 9mm, .40, .45, and even 2" barrel .357 magnum are comparable, I have no doubt that ballistically speaking when taking human factor skill out, the best possible rounds for DGU on a shot per shot or 1 to 1 comparison basis would be the best human medium loads in 10mm or .41 magnum (not the hottest stuff that penetrates too shallow or way to much-let's say 16-21" of 10% Ord. Gel Penetration is what really is desired whether bare or 4 layer). If the few of you that carry 10mm on here have Gel Data from a few diff. sources on your carry loads list the Pen. Exp. MV/ME if you can average the tests that you researched. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ACW02U
