[Discussion] Security Guard Draws a Weapon on Four Rio Olympic Swimming Athletes

So here is a link to a CNN article discussing what is happening. The US Swimmers claimed that they were held up at gunpoint, but the Brazilian Civil Police is investigating with a strong case that proves they were fabricating the robbery.Instead, one or more of the four swimmers, Ryan Lochte, James Feigen, Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger, vandalized a bathroom at a gas station while heavily intoxicated. The workers at the gas station noticed and told the security guard. A third party citizen translated because the security guard only spoke Portuguese and the Americans only spoke English. They were apparently still in an excited state, so the security guard brandished his firearm in order to "control" the four Olympic swimmers. They calmed down enough, but still wanted to leave. The security guard holstered the weapon. The third party translator told them they ought to pay for the damages, so they left 100 of Brazilian currency and a $20 bill. They then got in their taxi cab they had arrived in and convinced the driver to leave the scene. They then told the press they had been robbed at gunpoint while "out on the town."Now, in the press conference the investigators/spokesperson iterated that they had no reason to believe the security guard was trying to extort them of money. They also thought there was no negligent use of the firearm as far as they could tell in the investigation so far.TL;DR What do you think about the security guard's use of a firearm in this situation? What are American (or other countries') firearm standards on the matter (i.e. brandishing a firearm to diffuse a situation / control hysterical persons who had just been smashing property). via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2bBvqrO
