First time carrying

I have a G19 Gen4 and decided to take her out to get comfortable carrying it in public today. Instead of the usual Walmart run, I decided the county fair would do. And guess who pointed me out! Nobody! Definitely going to take some getting used to, but I'm happy to have joined the club! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2cawgfk

A question about having to draw and the options you have right after

I've been thinking about this and wondering about the course of action you take. Let's say you draw on somebody for a legitimate reason (advancing on you with a knife drawn, pushing/shoving you around and threatening you repeatedly, etc) and this stops them in their tracks. Now what? Do you tell them to leave? Do you tell them to get on the ground and you call the cops? Do you back off and try to escape? If you drawing stops them in their tracks, what's the best next step? Assuming they don't just run away. Thanks via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2bDfFE6

XD-S vs. Shield vs. PPS M2

I'm an XD-S owner because I invested in their full-sized firearms and loved them. Then I tried a PPQ M2. Things changed. I want that trigger on anything and everything I own. I've hated the trigger on the XD-S for it's length-of-pull from even before I bought it. I told myself I'd get used to it. I've put a couple thousand rounds downrange with it and do OK, but still have the occasional flyer because I get to anticipating or whatnot.I've held a Shield but not fired it. Liked the trigger pull, hated the slide release that requires two hands (WTF, BTW).Otherwise, the PPS M2 is promising but I've not yet handled one.Can anyone compare and contrast the triggers on these three and perhaps the PPQ M2 as well?I've invested a lot in my XD-S, but I'm starting my homework. I am going to need to make a change so I'm a bit more confident in an EDC.Thanks! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2bTmQHn

Follow up: Traveling with a firearm through O'Hare

Original PostWell, in hindsight I'd say that I was overly concerned about traveling to The People's Republic of Chicago. I took the Wisconsin Coach shuttle from Racine to O'Hare with my firearm in my luggage, unloaded and locked up in one of these cases. I disembarked the bus and grabbed my suitcase, then proceeded to check in for my flight on American Airline. When I got to the check-in counter I told the woman, "I need to fill out a declaration for a firearm". Without batting an eye she says, "Ok, put your suitcase up here and show me". So, I open it up, unlock the case, then demonstrated that it was in fact unloaded. "OK, lock it up and fill out this form".Once the form was done a TSA guy came to bring my bag to the front of the line at the x-ray machine, and just a moment later he comes around and tells me "All done. Have a good flight". Altogether the additional time it took to check in was maybe 4 extra minutes. No big deal at all! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2cdfqg3

Advice/Anecdotes for Sub-compact 9mm Pistols

I visited a range where I can try out a few pistols, and went away with a--thankfully--narrowed list of sub-compact pistols I'd like to purchase. I'm just curious if anyone here has any seriously negative experiences with any of the following handguns in terms of CCW/EDC:Walther PPS (first gen)Walther PPS M2Springfield XDsS&W M&P9 ShieldGlock 43Note: I didn't get to shoot the PPS M2, but the first gen felt absolutely amazing.I have experience shooting a full-sized 9mm (HK VP9), and I like how that feels and handles. To me, the sub-compacts definitely punched harder, and I had to make a lot of (understandable) accommodations for my natural trigger pull. Otherwise, they all felt very similar to me. Yeah, the Shield's trigger wasn't as nice as the XDs. The Glock had a little more recoil than the Walther. For my purposes, though, I wasn't really put off by any of these. My last data point is (hopefully) a little sage advice from the folks here who have carried one or more of these pistols. If there's some show-stopper feature, issue, or annoyance the guy at the range didn't know about any.Thank you for any help you can provide! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2bCAsYB

Question specific to Philadelphia, PA

I live on the Main Line (suburbs of Philly) and when applying for my CCW had to go to my local sheriff's office. No problems whatsoever. My friend lives in the City of Philadelphia and my question is this:1) Is the process the same for him as it was for me?2) Do Philadelphia's stricter gun carrying laws make it more difficult for him to get his CCW?3) If anyone has actually successfully received a CCW from the City of Philadelphia, can you describe to me the process? Thanks in advance, and sorry for any ignorance. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2cf0GAm

Another "which gun belt" question..

I need a gun belt, I would like it to be reinforced. I would like to stay under $60 shipped. Alien Gear is $75 shipped, Hanks reinforced is $80 and pretty much it goes up in price from there with other vendors. I carry a Ruger LCR in Dara and I wear 514 Levi's. Would I be alright with a regular Hanks ($45 on Amazon)? Would it pass the test for the next year at least? Other options? We need that Belt section updated. Thanks everyone! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2c4UecK

Curious question from someone who lives in Louisiana but has a Mississippi registered vehicle. Can I carry my AR or a shotgun in the back of my trunk on a daily basis (just because I want to)? And if I do, do I have to alert the officer that there is a firearm in the trunk if I can't even access it?

Technically, I'm a Louisiana resident with a Louisiana license but my vehicle is registered under my father's name in Mississippi so I'm a little confused. As of now I don't have my conceal carry permit (nor do I have the money for my P320 yet), but I know a good bit about the laws here such as open carry, your vehicle being an extension of your private property in Louisiana and such.Personally, I'd always aware the officer that there is a firearm in the vehicle up front with me, whether I hand him my CC permit (whenever I get one), tell him myself (I'd prefer just to give him the permit), or if he asks. However, I don't know if the trunk should be included considering it's isolated from me (whether by the seats or a locked trunk door).Bonus question for anyone who knows the answer for this. I was told by my conceal carry class instructor that because your vehicle is an extension of your home (in LA), you can leave your firearms in your vehicle on a college campus but ONLY in your vehicle. Taking it outside of the vehicle and therefore "on" campus is of course completely against the law I know, but is that true that it's okay to keep it in your car? I've looked up and down and I can't find anywhere that says that. I'd like to know because it'd be a pain in the ass every day to leave it at home, go to class, go back home to get the CCW, and go run my errands. I'd also like to find this law in writing if possible, to keep on me in my glovebox as proof in the event that I ever need it. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2bC9sTU

Some of the comments I see here

I smoke medical marijuana. I also carry a firearm3 mags and 2 knivesevery day of my life. I train shooting with the police at my local department and Gracie jujitsu. I work security at night clubs as well as body guarding in South Beach Florida. I know how much this community hates pot so go ahead and downvote away. However, I just read some of the comments on this post about a guy snitching on a drug dealer. He wants to wear body armor daily and keep a shotgun in his car and I'm genuinely concerned that some of you guys are nut bags after reading these comments. While nobody likes meth dealers (except for this guys sister), he made the really stupid decision "warn the guy" to stay away from his sister before snitching. Remember the phrase "no one likes a tattletale"? It's because they're real world consequences for interfering in somebody else's life. He just told this guy "hey it was me" and it's not like his sister (who allowed herself to get addicted, be beaten and pimped out) is mentally stable enough to be trusted not to tell her boyfriend. My point is, this guy made a bad decision. Should he be in fear for his life, probably. But arming up to the teeth isn't the fucking solution. Instead of people telling him to keep a low profile change his phone number and get his sister help and away from that guy, all of the comments were telling the guy that his gun was too small and he needed a short barrel rifle and extended magazines on his pistol and armor panels on his car, bulletproof backpacks and a fucking camera that attaches to your belt.My username is tactical bro, I love guns and knives and all sorts of close quarter combat training, but I think you guys are taking it a bit too far.getting caught with a short barrel A.R. 15 and a bulletproof vest with a level III bulletproof backpack after warning somebody to stay away from your family is just looking for a premeditated murder charge.Who knows, maybe the weed turned me into a hippy, but as somebody who has engaged in gun fights, it's not as fun as you may think. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2bBUUZE

The one time I had to draw

This was a couple years back. I was driving on a three-lane highway in the center lane. In the right lane, there was a trucker who kept drifting over into the center lane as if he was nodding off. I honked the horn when he was almost about to hit me, but this apparently set him into some kind of rage. He started leaning out the window, swearing at me, giving me the finger, and most importantly swerving his truck at me as if he was going to intentionally hit me.I called the police to report this as I switched lanes, trying to get away from him. The dispatcher told me to pull over to the side of the road and wait for an officer, which I did. This turned out to be a mistake because the trucker ended up seeing this, and parked his semi in such a way that I couldn't drive out without reversing into oncoming traffic. (It was one of those grass shoulders, not the small shoulder you might find on most highways.)He got out of his truck and started approaching my car, with some kind of object in his right hand. It almost looked like some kind of baton. I drew my gun and pointed it at him through the windshield when he got close enough to see it. This was enough to stop him dead in his tracks. He stood there for a few seconds before walking back to his truck and driving away. The police picked him up a couple hours later. Apparently he had a record of assault, reckless driving, using a vehicle to threaten others, etc. He ended up losing his commercial drivers license over this incident.Just goes to show you, you never know when you're going to run into some psychopath. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2bCarnd

Bad idea to carry an extended mag?

I saw the post about the guy who pulled a gun at the black lives matter protest the other day. A lot of people were "attacking" the fact that he had 5 magazines on him. I'm wondering if in a legal sittuation it will be looked down upon that I carry an extended magazine (I carry a glock 26 and a 17 round magazine as a backup).More curious than anything. Thanks via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2bBMz82

What is wrong with people?

Let me start by saying I CCW everyday. I'm no saint and I'm sure a lot of you would disagree with my own life choices and things I say. I'm not attacking gun owners, concealed carriers or anyone else in general. If you go through my post history, there are plenty of stupid, rash comments that I've made, some quite recently. Downvote away and take it how you will, but this seems like a problem to me.I just read a post here about someone who made a terrible decision and is in fear for their life. He asked if it was advisable to wear body armor and ccw a pistol and keep a long gun under a blanket in their car. I'm not here to rag on this guy, his concern was genuine, but the crazy responses I've seen make me genuinely concerned. I'm not going to post anybody's username and most of here quotes are a bit exaggerated.Instead of advising the guy to keep a low profile and stop making stupid decisions, 80% of the comments were encouraging and exaggerating his approach: "You're gun is too small a caliber and doesn't accept accessories. You need an M&p9c with two 17round mags and an Inforce light Shot gun is a bad idea, you need an mo5 clone.""Buy a level IIIa body armor backpack and buy extra panels to line the doors of your car""Shot gun under blanket it bad idea." finally, I think. get a short barreled ar that'll fit in an open backpack"Fuck me.Maybe I'm crazy but I thought that gun ownership meant were supposed to be responsible, not vigilante mercenaries. I'm all for self defense, I carry 35 rounds and a fixed blade everywhere, everyday. As I mentioned I haven't always been a saint. I don't know how many of you guys have been involved in real firefights, but it's not pretty and it's not fun. I have a blast when I go to the gun range, but trying to kill another human or prevent one from killing you is a different story.I was just beratted by many of the same people last week for my stupid comments on a post here About the black guy in dollar tree in west palm beach.I saw dozens of comments about how people would've drawn to scare the guy. I suggested choking him out or worst case using a knife when he pulled out his keys as a stabbing tool. It's funny to me because I smoke marijuana medicinally which is frowned upon in this community, but it seems that I have a clear head on my shoulders than a lot of these trigger-happy fools.TL;DR: we all love our guns and training but I pray when I see stupid comments like this that its just someone talking tough online. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2bC2Yo3

CCW in private aircraft

I'm a pilot and aircraft owner. I have multiple non-resident permits, plus a resident permit from my home state. If I am reading Ohio law properly, I can't lawfully fly myself into Ohio with my CCW in the plane. That seems odd, since I can clearly lawfully drive myself there (or come over the state line on a bicycle, for that matter). The state definition of "motor vehicle" is pretty exhaustive and doesn't include things with wings or rotors, so I don't think the vehicle-carry laws are any help. Am I reading this properly? More generally, is this restriction a thing in other states too? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2bBLTjh

I snitched on my sister's meth dealer and he knows it.

So, my sister is a meth addict and has been pimped out by and beaten by her dealer for several years. This was dumb of me, but I warned him to stay away from her just before reporting him to the local narcotics unit. I really didn't think anything would come of it, and it was mostly an impulse decision. Well, they started an investigation resulting in his arrest, which I'm sure he knows came about from my giving them his info. I carry an S&W Shield 9 and have a Remington 870 I'm going to keep in my car under a blanket,. (I have a CCP) I have heard rumors of this man murdering rival dealers. I've deleted my facebook account to keep my image out of the wrong hands, but I'd like suggestions for body armor or any other precautions I can take. Mass Compliant Question, struggling to find information

Hey everyone, I've never been on this forum, but I'm finding it difficult to find the information I'm looking for. I figured I'd try reddit.Anyways, I'm 20-turning 21 in the great state of taxachusetts. Yes, the freedom loving state massachusetts where guns are reasonably regulatedLOL jkBasically here's my issue: I'd like to buy a CZ P07 as my first carry, but I have no clue if it's mass compliant. It's not showing up on any compliant list...but it's also not showing up on any non compliant lists... is it legal to purchase the gun online to be transferred to a licensed dealer who would preform the background checks and such. Or is this not possible. If I can't get an answer here, my second effort will be to contact a dealer directly with this question, but I'd prefer to find my answer here.Gangrel via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2cpQxSC

Post-DGU legal aftermath, Paul Lathrop

Some have asked for post-DGU AARs. This recently hit my podcast feed.Paul Lathrop (of the Polite Society Podcast) was involved in a defensive gun use in Februrary 2016. Last week (August 2016), the charges were dropped by the district attorney. In the most recent Polite Society podcast, Paul Lathrop summarizes his six-month ordeal and some lessons learned. One's self-defense plan must be multi-layered, and more than just "I have a GUN!" The aggressor made violent statements and gestures, and was advancing towards the defendant, inside a stopped vehicle (Ability, Opportunity, not yet immediate Jeopardy). The escalation of force was ended with verbal commands/command-voice. A gun was never presented. Lathrop's legal defense and expenses cost more than $25,000.http://ift.tt/2bQh76z entire episode is two-and-a-half hours long (also includes an interview with trainer Kathy Jackson). For the time limited, there are links to segments of the Paul Lathrop interview segments only.Additionally, to get the word out to the CCW/pro-2A audience, Paul Lathrop is also doing interviews with other podcasts and media venues. 1) Lathrop interview with Bob Mayne, Handgun World Podcast. 2) Lathrop interview with Paul Carlson of Safety Solutions Academy podcast. More interviews to publish soon; Gun Talk with Tom Gresham, Lock & Load Radio and Gun Freedom Radio are on the schedule.TLDR: 1) Be the first to call 9-1-1 (even if the gun didn't come out). 2) Be a member of a CCW/CHL Legal Defense plan (or have $25K in your checking account). via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2bHlVYy

Having a hard time deciding between a Springfield XDs 9mm 3.3 vs 4inch your input is requested.

Long story short my current carry gun never gets carried because it is too freaking big for me and my body style to carry comfortably.I've just discovered the new XDs line and have held both lengths in my hands.About me: 5'9" 165lbs, avg build kind of guy, not super thin not super chunky. I wear regular non baggy clothes but nothing like skinny jeans etc.I plan to carry in a G Code incog holster.So.... from your experience is there any reason I should shy away from the 4inch version compared to the 3.3? I personally gravitate towards the 4inch version for the longer distance between sights and the few extra fps of velocity out of the muzzle for the rounds. However, I'm open to suggestions and other ideas that I may not have considered and since I've been negligent in maintaining my carry habits I can't see how asking the EDC crowd what their take is on things. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2c5XW4T

People with Glock 19 (or similar sized handguns), how do you comfortably carry IWB (new to CCW)?

Just started carrying a few days ago... so any help is appreciated. I have a Hanks Gun belt, Alien Gear Tuck 3.0 (IWB) holster, and a Glock 19. Holster Dilemma - Ace-1 Gen 2 vs Protos-M CZ PCR

So I picked up my first holster for my PCR a month ago, the Black Arch Ace-1 Gen2. I like it overall. I wanted Stealthgear but they don't make a holster for the PCR.They came out with the Protos-M dual clip IWB model a few days ago and I bought it intending on swapping to the Protos-M. It is MUCH smaller in terms of the footprint of the holster. It feels like there's no holster compared to the Ace-1. When standing it is much more comfortable. However, I have a few issues.First off, due to the smaller profile and slightly thinner leather, the shorts that I normally wear for carry don't really work. I wear a size 30 short and a 31 or 32 when I carry, but if the pants are not super snug the holster will move horizontally in my waistband while walking. If I grab the grip of the gun I can push it outward quite a bit if I try. With the Ace-1 I can't do that. I think the stiffer and larger profile is holding the gun tighter to my body.Should I keep the slimmer Protos-M and accept the holster is not as 'tight' to my body or as snug? Or deal with slightly less comfort to have a snugger holster? One problem could be that the heaviness of the PCR is too much for a slimmer lower profile holster. Thanks guys. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2bC2RJL

trex arms sidecar vs tactile annex vs las concealment vs tier 1

I've been in the market for a new holster and have been looking into AIWB holster for my Glock 19 with an inforce apl light attached. The two that I have seen the most on social media about are the Trex arms sidecar and tier 1 concealed agis. I want an extra mag with it and those are the two I know "most" about but there a little to no reviews on the AGIS holster so any input would be great.pictures of how the holsters conceals and or just general input that would be awesome. If build matters Im 511 200 with a fit build and I typically wear a Tshirt with golf shorts with a 5'11 tactcial belt. Please dont just comment and say the light sucks or some off topic stuff. I'm a thin guy, 5'8", 28/30 pants. Deep concealment FTW!

I work as a bartender. My work uniform is a semi tight fitting black polo shirt with jeans. I cannot conceal my M&P 9c adequately in an IWB holster due to the bending, testing, and reaching that I'm constantly doing in close view of guests and co workers. I've decided to give deep concealment a shot - specifically, ankle carry using a galco ankle lite. I just got this sucker in the mail, and I'm very happy with the results thus far.
