First CCW

I’m sure this has been brought up before but I had trouble with the search. I am looking to get my first concealed carry pistol, and am currently looking at the G26, the LC9s, and the Shield 9mm. From people who have carried one or more of these, what can you tell me that might help narrow t down? Are there any other similarly sized pistols I should consider? I spend most of the week in jeans and a button down shirt, and the small size of these is most attractive to me. Price is a secondary concern, size/comfort, accuracy, and reliability are my main focal points. Thanks in advance. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2MCr31f

Most affordable side-car holster?

I'm looking for a side-car holster for my Shield 9mm. I currently use a CYA kydex holster but want a side-car to carry an extra magazine.I've seen the T-rex sidecar but think it's a bit expensive ($105) and will take 1-3 weeks before it ships...Is there another good option that is not as expensive? Also, I'm a skinny guy (5'10" 150lbs) with pretty much a flat chest/stomach. Will the claw on the side-car holster poke out and show a bulge?Any help is appreciated. Let me know if you need more info. Thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2lJrcUX

Small business owner and self defense

I live in NC. My father runs a small shop and recently he repossessed a vehicle of "Mike." My dad will fix cars and sell vehicles on liens. Mike hadn't payed his car in 4 months and blocked my dad's number. My dad went and repossessed the car after filing the appropriate paperwork. Since the lien was in my name, I went to go look at the condition of the car. It was in horrible condition and had loads of trash, clothes, CDs, and marijuana perefinelia in it. We threw all of it away.

Mike showed up to my dad's shop on Friday with some BS story about how he had been out of town for months and claimed he had $1000 of stuff in the car. Mike says my dad has until Monday before he comes and "beats the shit out of him, you don't know who you're fucking with, yadda yadda."

My dad is passive and says he's not worried, he'll call the cops if the guy shows up. I'm worried for him and offered to give him my shotgun so he has some method of defense. Is that a bad idea, and what else should I do?

My friend got attacked and i freezed

I've been boxing for 6 months, I figured I would learn some kind of martial art for self defence. I just came from a party where my friend got jumped by 2 guys and immediately i rushed to his side while still trying to de-escalate the situation. They start trading punches, I get one of the guys attention so it was a 2v2 situation and then I look to my left and 3 more guys show up from their side. I immediately ran while 3 of them kinda chase me around and my friend kept trading punches while outnumbered. When i finished all the god damn running no one even touched me and my friend was all bloody in the face. I feel like a loser. I mean... I was outnumbered ,but leaving him alone? He could've died. I foking yelled at him in the end: why didnt u run? At least walk back while punching and keep distance but ultimately he stood his ground and I freezed. I did nothing. What should I have done in that situation?

Carrying in your home. Questions, thoughts and opinions.

Hello everyone I just thought I’d get everyone’s opinion and how they feel about carrying at home. Home carry, house carry whatever you want to call it. Also I had afew questions. 1) Do you carry in the same holster as your edc or do you have a designated holster for when you’re at home that’s more comfortable? 2) Does your SO or others look at you like a lunatic? 3) If you carry at home is that the gun you use primarily for home defense? For myself I carry at home since I’m not a fortune teller and I don’t know when someone will kick my door in at 10 in the morning and I don’t want my safety plan to revolve around me being in a particular room. For example a lot of defense plans start something like I’ll grab the gun from my nightstand/closet and do XYZ. I have a child so I can’t just leave him to run and get a gun, and since I have a small child the likely hood of having to shoot one handed is higher so I Focus my defense around a pistol. What about you guys what do you do? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2MC0JUR

Best aftermarket trigger for Shield 9mm?

Before anyone says "Save the money and spend it on brass" I'm confident in my ability to shoot the gun. I'm good and accurate and looking to take the gun to the next level. That being said, what are your recommendations for an aftermarket trigger for an M&P sheild? I don't want the trigger to be super light as it's less than ideal for concealed carry. I've seen the Hyve monarch triggers and Apex trigger kits but have no experience with them. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2MDqtjD

Finding my new carry gun Part 3 - Springfield Armory 1911 Range Officer

Before I get into my visit with the 1911, I wanted to confirm what some said about the H&K USP having a decocker. Indeed, it does have a decocker that activates when pressing down a second time. This really bumps up the USP for me because I can have the best of both worlds. A gun with a safety and a decocker.First thing a thought about when I picked up the Springfield Armory 1911 Range Officer was the weight. The only non-steel part that I saw was the wood grips. Fully loaded, I'm not sure I'd want to carry it around on a daily basis. The only other thing I didn't like about it was that it was SAO. I really want a DA/SA so I can have the hammer down. Besides those two things, everything else was great.I really liked the trigger. I never felt like the trigger was pivoting. It was more like sliding back into that frame. There was very little slack before I hit the wall. There was no mush with a nice, crisp break. I think this helped with my accuracy. After my first five shots, my groupings really tightened up. The controls were nice also. I could activate the safety with ease without moving my thumb. The slide release was just at the tip of my thumb but still easy to use. The placement of both made good spots to place my thumbs while shooting. I really liked how it felt in my hand. I felt like my hand was really high and tight under the beavertail. The grips themselves were really nice and provided a good tactile response if that's the right phrase. And speaking of grip, being the first single stack I've ever shot I liked how I could get a little extra hand around the grip. I think it helped me control the gun better. The sights were nice with a fiber optic front and an adjustable rear. The mag release was in the grip and functioned as expected with my thumb.Overall, I can see why people like the 1911 style gun. Solid construction, easy to shoot, and easy to control. While it made my ever growing list of guns I want to own, it'll be far down on my carry list. This is primarily due to the weight and SAO capability. It did open my eyes to getting a single stack though. If there's something I didn't cover and you want this amateur's perspective, let me know.Updated list as of today:1.) H&K USP 9 (now with confirmed decocker)2.) CZ P-073.) Springfield Armory 1911 Range Officer via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2N9TzrQ

I've never touched a gun before but want to learn basics, obtain a permit, and eventually buy. Do I start with NRA basic pistol course? If not, where do I start?

The title is pretty self explanatory... but basically I know very little about guns but want to learn. Do I start by taking an NRA approved pistol course? Is that course inappropriate for extreme beginners like me or am I exactly who that course is for? Is there something I should do before that? Are all factory guns equal in the eye of the law?

My G19 has aftermarket sights, trigger job, new springs etc. Because of this, it is no longer in my ccw rotation because I am afraid of an attorney trying to use those “add-ons” against me in a self defense shooting (outside of my home). First off, should this be a concern? After buying my first CZ, a Shadow 2, I decided that I’m going to run a P07 as my new ccw. However, the question arises; would the standard black be “better” in a court room setting vs. urban grey with a threaded barrel and high night sights? Will also be running a TLR-7.Thanks in advance for any info/insight! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2NdCw8C

[Holsters and Belts] New guy. Have handgun, need holster and belt. Tell me why I'm wrong.

I've spent a few weeks lurking through this subreddit. Purchased a Walther PPS M2 to carry IWB at 3:30-4:00. Not interested in appendix carry. I'm 6'0", 160lbs. Typically wear athletic shorts, jeans, "normal" shorts with a belt. As you can tell from my choice of handgun, I'm putting emphasis on concealability and comfort. One of the useful parts of the CCW class I took was when a former Marine instructor said that, in a stress situation, you fall back to your most basic level of training. As such, I've spent my time since purchasing the gun practicing - don't want to carry without being what I consider an above average shooter. I shoot the gun decently well at this point.Concerning holsters. It seems like the consensus is that full Kydex is the only way. I'm mainly looking at the Vedder lighttuck and a Dara holster. Tell me your pros and cons. Dara seems to have a better belt clip, while the adjustability factor of the Vedder is quite nice. Is the clip on the lighttuck competent? Any other suggestions are appreciated.Concerning belts. I want a leather belt. I don't want to drop $100 on a Beltman right now. I'm just now getting into carrying. If I don't like it, I won't do it. So I don't want to go all out financially on a belt that, unlike a holster, doesn't give me a 30 day trial period. I do understand the importance of purchasing quality products in this case, don't want to give the wrong impression. My current belt plan is as follows. Pick up a less-than-perfect belt from Hank's as a starter, and see how carrying works out for me. I will likely purchase one without an internal stiffener - cost again. Now, my understanding is that a belt with no stiffener is fine, but will not last more than 6 months to a year. How correct is that? I figure that this timeframe is plenty of time for me to decide on whether I am comfortable with the idea of carrying. Once I make up my mind, I can go for a Beltman or stop carrying. I figure that a non stiffened leather belt will be fine in my case because 1) lightweight gun and 2) full awareness concerning longevity. So, am I wrong? Does this seem like a good plan? Any other holster recommendations or general new guy advice is appreciated. Thanks everyone.edit: pretty sure I screwed up the post flair. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2lHTdMB

AR Pistol - Hiking Question

This is in regards to concealing an AR pistol in a hiking pack.I've had enough run ins with animals (bears, coyotes, etc.) while out that I generally dont hike without some form of firearm nowadays (generally my M9) but I'd feel significant better with something a bit larger. Are there any legal concerns with keeping a split AR pistol concealed within my pack? I know that legally it's considered a pistol, and should be covered under the same laws that my M9 is, but I just wanted to check that I'm not breaking any obvious laws here before I go ahead and throw it in my bag.I know the obvious solution here is to just carry something chambered in a 10mm or a magnum round, but I dont own that equipment right now, hence the question. I already rock mace and bear bells. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2tGvlgV

Interesting question: what happens after you shoot and incapacitate/kill an active shooter?

Let’s say someone comes into your place of work, etc. with a gun and starts shooting, you return fire and incapacitate them or kill them, what’s the process afterwords? Would there even be a trial or would there be so much overwhelming evidence and witness that it would be like “oh thanks, let’s fill out a report, and you can go”. Just wondering if it’s any different than any other defensive shooting in terms of how it’s handled by police. Thanks via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2yR22gy

Texas Law Question

Looking to get my LTC soon, but would likely acquire my handgun before I do that. So I have a couple of clarifying questions:As far as I know, you can own a handgun in Texas without a LTC, but you cannot have it "on your person". I assume "on your person" would be carrying around, or holstered, etc. From what I know, you can have it in its case/bag, transporting it directly to your vehicle to take to a gun range or whatever. What is the law regarding having the gun, not at a range, but also not "on my person"? i.e. On a nightstand, in my bag next to me at work, etc. Basically, at what point is a LTC required to be in possession of my gun? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Muv4of

Buying, and carrying while traveling?

I am a CCW holder in Florida. My honeymoon is coming up and we are taking a 3 week tour of the country - flying to two parts of the country than driving a 3rd of the country including into and out of Canada. I don’t want to deal with flying with my firearm, nor the hassle of dealing with ‘storing’ it for the Canada bit but was thinking once we are back into the US we will be car camping for two weeks, getting a hotel every 3rd or 4th night and having some protection might be worth the peace of mind.Which states would be most friendly (not just reciprocity but over-all easy purchase experience) to my FL CCW and assuming we will be pulled over for speeding in every state (plan for the worse), is it worth the hassle, should I just grab a bat from Walmart and move on?A lot of the activities we have planned are in public areas that do not allow carrying (sporting event, physical activity) so this really is a piece to stay in the glovebox in case someone tests our door handle in the night or if we need to make a 3am Walmart run in BFE. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2KiqhcS

Silly situation that made me rethink not carrying for a "quick errand"

So it was about 11pm and I had gone over my GF's house to help her diagnose her car problems. Living only 2 miles away and being in a safe neighborhood, I really didn't feel like putting on my holster and gun. So I just took my flashlight and some tools. Her car was parked on the street so I was using my flashlight and wrench to disconnect the battery. And do my thing. While doing this, I noticed a car passing my the house multiple times. On the last time, they stopped right in front of the house.I reached back to make sure I had my gun and my only thought was 'Shiiiiiitttttttt". Told my GF to go back in the house, I followed shortly, stopping at the garage. I basically stared at the car with a flashlight in one hand and a big ass wrench in the other for a good two or so minutes. They finally rolled down their windows and said they thought I was my GF's brother and that they were waiting for him.I felt silly about the whole situation, but I always think back to it when I feel lazy about putting on my holster for a "quick errand". via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2KwGR4W

First-Time Gun Owner CCW Recommendations

Hey everyone! Completely new to this sub but wanted to ask for a few recommendations on a first time gun purchase for CCW.A little background: My grandfather taught me shooting and firearm safety at a young age, I learned weapon safety in Boy Scouts, and I've been to the range and shot many times but have never felt it necessary to own or carry a firearm. Now that I own a home and have a baby I'm more concerned about safety. I live in suburban Virginia (gun laws support ownership) in a nice middle/working class area, but last winter we had a few serious crimes around the neighborhood (a shooting in a nearby apartment with no injuries, and a separate strong arm robbery). I wanted to buy a gun then, but the wife and I decided to put in a security system and hold off.Now that I'm revisiting the idea with a clear head, I still want to go ahead and purchase a weapon for concealed carry. I'm not a highly experienced shooter, so something relatively light with less recoil that I can practice shooting/drawing with would be ideal; .45 ACP caliber seems overkill. I plan to carry inside the belt either on the front right (appendix carry?) or on my right rear pocket. I've looked at a few single-stack 9mm subcompacts, but I'm a 6'0" guy with large hands, so I'm a bit concerned that a subcompact would be harder to hold, draw without dropping it, and fire accurately. My preference would be to buy something and not have to buy extended magazines just to be able to grip it properly - many of the reviews I've seen have said that aftermarket magazines can be inconsistent or cause jams.Any recommendations? I'd be interested to know what you guys use for everyday carry, what you've been happiest with in terms of comfort/reliability, and how your choice helped you adjust to carrying on a regular basis. Thanks! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2KvyOZs

I'm new here, but you all seem friendly and EXTREMELY knowledgeable, so I'm going to ask a stupid holster question.

I own a Bersa Thunder .380. About two or three years ago, I went holster hunting and everything I seemed to have read around that time said that Alien Gear were a decent, if not outright good, choice. So I picked up one of their combo deals that came with both an OWB and IWB (which is what I primarily intended on using). Here's a screenshot of what I specifically ordered. While I wasn't displeased with the product, it seemed like it was never really as comfortable as I would have liked. It's fairly wide, so I always found myself readjusting it to try to find a sweet spot. I prefer carrying as close to 3:00 as possible, as it's the most comfortable draw position for me.That all said, I was perusing posts here and someone had asked if a holster they were considering buying would be better than their Alien Gear. The reply someone else made was that anything would be better than their Alien Gear. Are they really considered that bad? And if so, what are generally considered the best, taking into consideration the following:I have a Bersa Thunder .380.I prefer carrying IWB.I prefer positioning to be at or near 3:00.I'm a skinny dude, which I mention because I wear men's small or medium shirts. So, while I wear things that fit, I don't wear baggy shirts that would provide excessive waist coverage. Also, I rock size 32 jeans in case that has any relevance.Right now, I'm looking at a Dara Custom Kydex holster (because I did actually read through the FAQ before posting this) but I still wanted to posit the question in case there was a better choice based on the things I posted above. Here's a screenshot of the potential Dara holster order. Thanks in advance for all your expert advice! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2tERDjf

Future holder of a Texas LTC and I work in college dorm. Boss told me I can get fired for printing

Question for those of you who are concealed carriers: I'm currently a resident assistant at my dorm on a college campus and will be obtaining my Texas LTC in the coming weeks. I briefly spoke to a Hall Director (a step above being a Resident Assistant) about concealed carrying within the dorms (which is entirely legal as long as I have a lockable safe) and if he's known any previous Resident Assistants who have carried. He told me he hasn't heard of me but warned me that if any residents find out I conceal carry or if I'm printing at all, it's grounds for immediate termination. Is this legally allowed? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2Kt8Jql

My friend is carrying his weapon in a fanny pack - advice

Hi all- I know absolutely nothing about guns. Recently, my friend started carrying his small caliber pocket pistol in what looks to be a Tablet sized fanny pack. Besides looking like a moron and the increased draw time, can you think of any safety negatives that would make this a terrible option ? I’m not too sure why he doesn’t use a holster, but he is obese so that may be a factor. Recently, he was sitting close to me and the Fanny pack was on my thigh, which made me uncomfortable.I know this is unconventional, and I am genuinely concerned about accidental discharge. Or should I not be?he does not use a trigger guard and the weapon is loaded. He is elderly and has been a family friend since I was born. Otherwise, I would not be in this situation. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2tF4hia

Question about transitioning residence to another state.

I am currently a NV resident with NV CCW and Utah Non Resident CCW. I am thinking about moving to Texas and will obviously get a CCW there as well. Here's my question. I know that as soon as my residence changes, my NV CCW is invalid. Is it possible to keep my Utah Non-Resident permit active and then just update Utah's records when I get a TX Drivers License?I'd obviously prefer to have no lapse in ability to carry, but understand if I cant. Glock sights - To change or not to change?

Currently I carry a Glock 43, which I love. I haven't done a single thing to it except add Talon grips which I have on every gun I have.Let me preface this by saying that I don't hate the 'ball and bucket' Glock sights.BUT.... by far the best sights on ANY gun I have are the stock sights tritium night sights that came on my Sig P320 Compact. Real talk - Who thinks that national reciprocity stands a chance with the Trump appointee?

I'm inclined to believe that, while abortion issues are first on the mind with the new appointee, we shouldn't disregard the huge opportunity it presents for gun owners.I think that it's possible that National reciprocity might be a possible reality in the near future. It needs the right language and the right requirements, but it's possible...Now, as a bonus question: what do you think possible requirements might be for national reciprocity to appease the nay-sayers? Here are my thoughts:(Note, I don't agree with the practices of these, I think it's most likely to pass if these are included)Each state can have their own permit that suffices just for their state and, with agreements, can decide what other states have reciprocity. This would fulfill many people's desire to have a CCL, but not require them to get a federal license. The requirements for each state cannot be more difficult or restrictive than the federal requirements.Applicant must be at least 21 years of ageStandard background checkUp to 60 days waiting periodProof of CCW training course of 12 hours. This will cover how to carry, best guns (sizes, calibers, magazine sizes), types of holsters, state and federal law. The federal government can offer this course to offset the cost needed to process a federal application. No more than $75.3 hours of handgun training. This should appease the states that require training as part of the process for a CCL. Person needs to display, loading, unloading, disassembly. Must be able to put 3 rounds in a 6" target at 7 yards. Safe handling and storage can also be part of this.Application fee of no more than $50. Must include photo ID and 2" pictures with application to be printed on the federal CCW ID. Application can be submitted online. If a state has requirements that meet the federal requirements, they automatically are approved, but must still submit the application with fee, and a picture of their current state's CCL.What do you all think? While I would LOVE the idea of my WI CCL being allowed everywhere, it's not going to happen unless there are federal rules/requirements. So, I think we have to be realistic.EDIT: This would also allow open carry at a federal level, as well.Thoughts? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2N58Qu4

For the CCW application did you have to get a picture taken as part of the application or only after they accepted the application? Also, did you have to give them a copy of your birth certificate with the application?

Im really paranoid right now. I feel like my application was incomplete and im going to have to wait even longer because theyre gonna have to send it back. I know I gave them my social security so they probably don’t need my birth certificate, right? Also, I didn’t get my picture taken. That probably comes on the day I go to the get card, right??? Yes, this probably differs state by state. Im in Maine. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2lEqY1m

I want to conceal carry pepper spray to get used to the idea of carrying in the future, bad idea?

I am 17 right now and I think I want to conceal carry when I get older. I was thinking about carrying this pepper spray with an IWB holster to get used to the idea of carrying. I live in WA and it's legal to carry pepper spray, but do you guys think it's a bad idea? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2IzT8DJ
