Word of warning to those to pocket carry...

I recently started pocket carrying a Ruger LCPII with a BORAII holster.Today, I got my "magguts" after-market mag extension system, and went to install it in one of my OEM mags.As I was doing so, I noticed that there was a lot of dust built up in the firearm. I disassembled it to clean it, and I noticed huge amounts of dust and dirt has built up inside. The scariest part, though, was that there was dust and debris inside the barrel. I had a dust clot and a piece of hay or grass or something in the barrel. Definitely would have been a risk of impaction had I discharged the weapon. So, word of warning: pocket carry pieces are at a high risk of contamination and require frequent cleaning.A normal setup with a full holster serves as a partial barrier to dust entering the handgun, but with pocket carry holsters, the muzzle is exposed and will pick up any dirt in the pocket. Further, pockets tend to have a lot of fuzz and debris in them. So, clean your pocket carry pieces, folks...Edit: It sounds like dust in the barrel isn't as big a deal as I thought. I always learned that "the smallest obstruction can cause a failure," but maybe they were just trying to emphasis the importance of cleaning. Still, the weapon is a life-and-death level tool, and so I intend to dial up my cleaning regimen. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2zMlqLl
