I got my license back in July and have carried my Shield 9 religiously every day since in a De Santis Invader, super comfy, but with one exception: I don’t carry in bars when I’m drinking. I’ll leave my piece at home all locked up, and naturally the first time I wanted my gun by my side it was a nice half hour away, completely useless. My gf and I park, and start walking towards the bar we’ll meet her coworkers at. On the way, we passed an alley and I noticed two men huddled together about five seconds before they saw me. I scared the guy with his back to me, a 300+ black guy who literally jumped up like a cat and immediately started yelling at me about “Don’t sneak up on a nigga/gonna get yo ass fucked up” and such.I kindof gently pushed my gf ahead of me, put some distance between me and angry guy, held a hand out, said I was sorry, and walked/pushed my gf towards the bar about twenty yards away where the bouncers were watching us. My gf was asking what was going on as soon as the yelling started, which I attempted to shush.Takeaways/realizations: Given the situation I think I did well, and the tools I had for just this situation seemed to work. Not super happy about my gf’s reaction, but it’s reasonable and totally my fault for not talking about self defense with her. I also realized that while I wanted my gun on me, I also wouldn’t have drawn on the guy. Although, I wouldn’t blame a guy if he was thinking about carrying to the bar in a belly band or other clever deep concealment now. Maybe even Iwb if he doesn’t get blitzed.Any recommendations? Suggestions? And where can you get other training post ccw class? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2zO2Gv5
