Daughters house invaded while she was in bed.

I've only posted here a couple times but wanted to share a story of what happened to my daughter early Thursday morning and how she handled it. I think she did well. She's 23 going through a divorce and has one child. She has her CCW and is pretty good with weapons. The father wanted to keep their son for a couple days so he picked him up Wednesday night. My daughter was in bed sleeping when she woke up hearing her dog, which was in his kennel, start to bark. He's a great alarm. A few seconds later someone kicked in her basement door. Just to lay out the house, there are 4 entrances into the main level of the house. One entrance is through the outside basement door and up a flight of stairs to a door leading into the kitchen. No one ever uses this way of entry. After she heard that, she shut and locked her bedroom door and retrieved 2 handguns from her pistol safe on the bedroom dresser. She hid behind her bed and dialed 911 and kept a gun pointed at the bedroom door. She could here the person moving around in her basement. The 911 operator handled it great. She asked my daughter if she had any weapons and knew how to use them. My daughter told her that she was armed and hiding in the bedroom. The operator kept her calm and told her that officers were on the way.She heard the intruder come up the stairs to the kitchen door and start trying to open it. Fortunately about that time you could hear sirens getting close and he ran back down the stairs. The operator told her that police were arriving in her yard and gave her the play by play over the phone. She told her that her basement door was open and that they were coming in, so not to be alarmed. They didn't find anyone in there and cleared the outside of the house. The operator asked my daughter to put down her weapon and go to the side porch to meet the officers. She did and one officer took her away from the house while a few others cleared the house. They searched her unattached garage and surrounding area but weren't able to locate the person. The house is surrounded by a lot of woods. What really concerns me is that a person entered a house with a barking dog and then went up the stairs toward the barking dog. I would think that would scare away any potential burglar. I just wanted to pass this along. She will be staying with us the next couple of nights while I secure her house better. I'm also sending her back home with an AR-15. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2zgJlRW
