I'm 38. When I was 22 I got charged with possession of a controlled substance (possession of a controlled prescription medicine without a prescription). This hasn't kept me from obtaining a nursing license or being employed as a nurse. The school only required that I describe the incident and no employer has viewed it as a reason to not employ me. I have been working as a licensed nurse for 5 years and have had no legal issues since that one time in 2000. On my CC application it said a permit can't be issued to someone who has had such a charge in their past. What I'm wondering is if anyone has gotten their permit despite having similar problems? Should I just apply anyway and then file an appeal with a lawyer or should I seek to have the charge pardoned or expunged first? I'm fairly certain PA does not expunge records for possession but maybe there is a loophole or workaround? Any advice would be appreciated. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2iRZS3n

Need holster suggestions, g19 w/tlr-1
So far all I can see for a lbh is in kydex. What I read is kydex is generally uncomfortable for bigger folks.I am 6' 245lbs, and I plan on apendex carry. In 1999 cops drew their guns on me and my high school friends for no good reason. Were they negligent?
So in 99 I was with 2 friends driving to my house in a truck. Cops pulled in front of us on my residential street, blocking our passage with their lights flashing. We stopped of course.2 cops jumped out and immediately drew their pistols and aimed at us, telling us to put up our hands. We were like wtf? But in hindsight I don't think any of us thought it was a big deal. The reason? The cops thought we were going to or coming from a large noisy outdoor house party a couple blocks away. They let us go no worse for wear, except for having fucking guns pointed at us.Like I said, I never thought it was some huge travesty or risky event. But looking back I feel lucky the cops didn't negligently shoot one of us. And it's fucking bullshit the way they drew their fucking guns on us for no good reason. What do you think? Were the cops in the wrong? Nothing serious occurred at the party either because it continued on. Not like there was a shooting or something cuz the party didn't get broken up. The cops were just having fun, pointing their guns at kids. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2iukbaD

Having a hard time finding if it's ok to partially conceal my hand gun.
I'm in Oklahoma and have a concealed carry license that allows me to open carry. The way I carry when wearing my cover all's leaves the gun 75% concealed which to me is fine but I'm not sure about if it's ok for Johnny law. Revolver just for vehicle?
I was just wondering if there are any thoughts on having a small revolver just to always have in a vehicle. My thoughts are for a car jacking or robbery situation, I would want something that can't be grabbed and pushed out of battery. Interested in a WWII Walther P38
Giving some thought to buying a WWII P38 and would like to confirm what I've learned and some followup questions.P38 was mftred between '38-'45. During ally occupation, no more guns made till well into 50's when the alloy frame P1 was made and are generally LEO trade ins.Identifying WWII P38:Made by.....Walther plant AC40-AC45.Mauser Plant byf42-byf45.Spreewerke cyg.French and less "value" SVM?Serials (production #) are 0000-9999 + letter code repeating thru alphabet while in continuous production.Value determined by following points:Lower yearsmatching serials on frame, slide, barrel AND magazine.original vs Russian Capture (RC). Russian capture identified by an X proof which image searches show seem to be on frame or slide.Spreewerke/cyg manufactured may include an asterisk (*) proof next to serial to indicate rejected/repaired part and may or may not add value to piece. There seems to be a lot of argument about rebluing and how to determine but if so lowers value. Most RC are def reblued and often serials force stamped lowering value. Are there any good sources for P38 milsurp? It seems like various links and forums I find and the estimated costs of a P38 are really outdated now. The $400-600 price seems long gone and I'm looking at 750+ misc fees. Barring an AC480 or all matching #s plus original holster, is there a rule of thumb for determining most appreciating value in a piece? Thanks. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2iRc5cR

Thinking about adding a laser/light to my CCWs
Disclaimer: This post can be highly triggering, may cause literal shaking, as it may not validate what you're doing and have been taught. For the past few days I've been watching the First Person Defender series on YouTube. The show is sponsered by companies like Remington, Taurus, Ruger, Nosler, and Crimson Trace. Honestly, the advertising is worse that Taurus' and Kimber's advertising in the monthly NRA magazines. The shows takes people with varying levels of firearms and training and puts them in scenarios that have happened. After the first scenario there is a little instruction and then scenario is ran again with a variation.I've never given much thought to lasers as I was trained to find the front sights. I thought lasers were gimmicks but I did see the value of a light for home defense so I put a TLR1s on my nightstand G17. After slowly being indoctrinated by Crimson Trace via their product placement in the First Person Defender series. This one specific scenario is having me reconsider about adding a laser to my G17 and putting a laser/light on my CCWs. In the scenario the good guy is able to focus on the bad guy's hands while keeping the gun pointed at center mass via the laser.Other than Crimson Trace, what other laser/light combos are out there? I know there is Streamlight TLR 2/4/6. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2isPHpk
Help finding a new Walther P99?
I'm looking for a Walther P99 with the anti-stress (AS) trigger, chambered in 9mm. This is my most reasonably priced dream gun, so I decided to treat myself this Christmas, but all I can find in local stores is the compact version. Ccw specific clothing
Are there any concealed carry- designed jackets or hoodies that are worth a damn? I've tried a few and they're usually just a terrible holster integrated into shitty overpriced clothing. What do you think of a belly band holster?
I'm using a belly band holster right now and I love it. It's so convenient and it's so much thinner and holds so much better than a normal holster (which makes it easier to conceal). The biggest disadvantage, however, is that the holster also using a pretty thin cloth and also rides up to your stomach the longer you walk and sit down and that the cloth is thin so the possibility of accidental discharge is there. For me, I modified my holster so that it ties down to the crotch (using sewn on string) so it doesn't move up and I also got a trigger stop so that the risk of accidental discharge from the thinner cloth is reduced. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ihqQ7L

Left-Handed Friendly 9mm, Striker-Fired Carry Guns
This is for people new to firearms and interested in self defense.About 10% of the population is left-handed which can be for the most part is not an issue, think pressing the lock screen button on a smartphone. But for firearms it can be a challenge. For going to the range and plinking it is not an issue if you're left-handed and your firearm only has right-handed controls. When it comes to training and an actual self defense situation there is a real advantage for a few reasons.First, reloads. Whether it is a tactical reload (topping off by putting in a full magazine) or an emergency reload (current magazine is empty, slide locked back, but threat is not over) being able to do so quickly is important. If you have to alter your grip weirdly to hit that right-handed oriented magazine release can cause an issues including dropping your gun in a high stress situation. After getting that magazine out you know how to put in a full, and chambering a round if it's an emergency reload. If it's an emergency reload the slide will be locked back so after inserting that fresh magazine you can either slingshot the slide, or hit the slide stop release if possible. Slingshotting requires less mechanical skill but hitting the slide stop release is "slightly" faster.Second, malfunctions. The weakest part of a semi-pistol is the magazine. The worst malfunction (second to a squid-bullet stuck in the barrel) is a double feed. A double feed is when you have a case/bullet in the chamber and another bullet trying to leave the magazine into the chamber. To fix this requires locking back the slide, so pushing up on the slide stop release, while pulling the slide back. Then, you have to strip the magazine by pressing the magazine release and pulling the magazine out. The next part doesn't matter what orientation the gun is; you rack the slide 3 times, insert fresh magazine, and rack again.A left-handed person shooting handguns for a long time will be use to right-handed guns but this post is for those that are new.The firearms below are 9mm, striker-fired, and compact. The reason why 9mm is because there is very minimal difference in wounding between the major service handgun service caliber but 9mm has the highest capacity and the least amount of recoil. The striker-fired is because it makes a firearm as mechanically safe as possible; it will not go off without the trigger being pulled without having to take any additional steps to make your weapon ready to defend yourself (manual safety). The compact part is so it's not too large to carry and so it's not too small for home defense if this will be your only gun.-FN FNS-9c-Ruger American Compact-Sig Sauer P320 Compact-Smith & Wesson M&P9c-Walther PPQ M2 via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2iqEENw

(long) Friend of mine was in a very dangerous situation last night and responded perfectly, then got very lucky.
Friend of mine who doesn't have his ccw but wants to get it could have easily been killed last night. Crazy thing is just a few days ago we were discussing the deadly force triangle and on opportunity I cited being in your vehicle and to just escape; even if that means running someone over.Well last night he ran someone over in his big ass lifted F-250.He pulled into a gas station to get gas and a bunch of "hood" cars pulled into the other pumps but no one got out to go in or pump gas. My friend was on his phone and received 3 calls back to back and so he did not exit his vehicle. After about 15 minutes of him not getting out, 3 african americans surrounded his truck. One in front, one in back, and one at his window. The one at his window ordered him to get out of his vehicle; when he said no the one in front slammed his hand on my friends hood. They ordered him out of his vehicle again and he floored it and ran over the guy in front. He would have left and drove away but immediately after he ran over the guy a mini-van dashed into position to block his exit. Also at that time the three assailants began running after his vehicle (guy he ran over was saved by a combination of being skinny and his truck being lifted). So he stops and throws it in reverse, and almost ran all 3 of them over. This is where he got ridiculously lucky. At that moment, a cop pulled in to get coffee. Officer drew his weapon and made them assume the position. Officer also had his weapon drawn on my friend because his first impression was a drug deal gone bad. The minivan and all the other vehicles got outta dodge and a bunch of police arrived to deal with the 3 assailants. They found guns on them and what appeared to be drugs. One of the men being arrested resisted and got slammed into the ground. A gas station employee who was recording this on their phone then starts yelling police brutality and black lives matter.Friend is shaken, but is physically and legally ok. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2hTVAZr

Where to start?
Hey guys, brand new to this sub. To make a long story short I have realized how important it is for me to be able to defend myself, especially since I'm a smaller guy. I also want to teach my girlfriend a few things so that given a situation, we could both fight separately or together if possible.
I unfortunately do not have the money to attend any local self defense classes, but I do want to start somewhere. I have the time to watch YouTube videos solo and with my girl, and I think we could learn a lot practicing together before spending money. Any suggestions on where to begin, which style to choose (Krav Maga, jujitsu, etc?). Love the info in the sub, I will definitely be browsing regularly. Thanks guys!

Arizona Here- Buying My 1st Handgun Tomorrow. A Few Questions( AZ LEOs, please help)
So I live in the greater Phoenix, Arizona area. As a lot of you probably know, Arizona doesn't require any sort of permit to carry concealed. However, it has been brought to my attention that federal law prohibits carrying a firearm within 1000 feet of any school UNLESS you have your ccw permit. Being Phoenix, lots of schools. I called a popular gun shop/range today and the young man was very nice and helpful, but even he said that carrying a handgun while DRIVING on a MAIN ROAD past a school is a "grey area". From what I read on the internet briefly, it doesn't matter if you are going onto school grounds or just driving on a public road, if you are within 1000ft with no CCW permit, you are in violation.I plan to take my CCW course the first week of our upcoming new year. I have been working overseas for the past 4 years and just returned and am honestly itching to buy. Should I just wait and buy model I plan on buying the day of the 4 hour CCW course? Its only another week or so until the next CCW course, but as I said, really wanting to buy tomorrow. If I lock the plastic case that the S&W MP 9mm comes with ( gun I plan on buying), am I okay with it in the trunk of a car, driving through a school zone on a public road?Sorry for the winded and long question.tl;dr- AZ state here- Can I transport a handgun concealed on body and/or locked in a carry case on a public road that goes right by a school ( 1000ft of school Fed Law, worried)Thanks for all the help folks.TT via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2iLRWVB
I'm dropping the money on a Stealth gear holster. Standard or appendix?
I've been carrying IWB using a passable holster from Everyday Holsters. I'm expecting a massive pay check in the next week, and I decided to take the plunge. However...I normally carry around 3:00, which works okay but causes my shirt to ride up. I've looked at appendix carry, and I'd like to try SG's AIWB+, but most of my time is spent biking, walking, and sitting. I'm not sure how comfortable it'll be.I carry a Walther CCP and I'm 5'6, about 130lb. Is it doable? Or should I go for a different holster style? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2hvp3b2

First day CCW
I just got my permit this week, and just got a inside the waist holster yesterday. Today was the first time carrying, and honestly I didn't even notice it most of the time. Driving wasn't even bad which I thought was going to be the worst part.I'd like to thank everyone in this sub as it really pushed me to get into gear and finally get my permit. I turned 21 in April so I had for to much time to have any real excuse for not having it. So long story short, thank you. I've learned a decent bit from this sub and was able to see other people's experiences with CCW which I wouldn't have seen otherwise. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2huRlCz

Any running the vortex viper on a daily carry?
So I have this viper which is awesome I love it. But for the fucking life of me I can't find a solid dovetail mount. I'm on my 3rd one. First one didn't fit right 2nd was for the wrong red dot. The 3rd is perfect beside the fact the screws that bolt red dot to mount are stupid short and don't work. Sadly I think it will be very difficult to find screws that will work as its very fine threads. Is anyone running this set up on the dovetail? Right now really my only option on a glock 26/27/33. When I did have it in the improper mount ( was sitting a little high and I had to mod the mount to sit flush) it was fucking awesome I really enjoyed it. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2iJZrIq

Recommendations on a gun safe for my car
I'm a student that attends a university where guns are allowed to be kept in the parking lot. I'm looking for a low-profile gun lock-box that I can bolt to the floor of my car right in front of my driver's seat. Something like this would be perfect for putting my gun in while I park and go to class. Preferably a combination lock since I'll be in and out of it a lot. I'm imagining something about 1.5-2" inches tall that opens like a clam and is just large enough for my gun and an extra mag. Thanks! via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2iJNHJY
XDs. 45ACP Improvements
Most of my fellow XDs users tend to agree that the trigger, especially on the .45 version, leaves a lot to be desired. I recently purchased and installed a Powder River Precision XDs Trigger Spring Kit and it has made a world of difference. In addition to lowering the weight of the pull from ~8lbs to 4.5-5lbs it has cleaned up all the grit in the pull and allowed me to actually feel a fairly crisp break and a good reset. Overall it has allowed me to be slightly more accurate and a lot more confident in how it handles. The final piece to the puzzle was the addition of a Pearce Grip Extension which has, in my opinion, transformed the gun into something I actually enjoy shooting and feel confident carrying. I carry at 4-5 o'clock and the grip extension has not effected the concealability at all for me. It's still comfortable and doesn't stick out like the +1 magazine does.Overall, I would highly recommend these two products and if any issues arise I will be sure to post about it here. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2icu7ou

New gun recommendations
When I bought my mother-in-law a glock 19 my wife started questioning my summer carry piece - an old Rossi 38 special. My parents gave it to me in 99 when I was sixteen and I always loved shooting it. I can routinely hit within the 9 ring at 15 yards and it's very easy to conceal and maintain. I started carrying when I turned 21 and it's just become a habit. When pointing out the advantages of the glock, my wife suggested I get something better for myself. Something with a higher capacity, potentially better inherent accuracy and with more after market.I might consider the glock 19 or 26 - but I want to try a hammer fired gun for awhile. Something in DA/SA, preferably with a decocker instead of a safety. Any thoughts? via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2hR8YNG

I live in a hot climate and I shoulder holster carry.
Hey guys I just wanted to let you know that shoulder carry is always an option even if it doesn't seem like it! IWB or OWB is great if it works for you, but I feel like shoulder carry is always on the back burner since the glorified Miami Vice days.IWB gets a lot of love. I have my alien gear stealth of course, but I use a sort of generic shoulder holster 97% of the time for my Shield on one side and 2 mags on the other even in 120 degree summer heat. Why? How!?My handy dandy punk rock denim vest!I know a lot of people here can't imagine wearing a denim vest and never would, but for people with a more "rock and roll" kind of look it conceals perfect. Also a nice light "checkered" over shirt at the right length is stylish and can be worn over a T-Shirt rather easily. The trick is to wear your firearm high and tight into your armpit. Most people have problems with shoulder carry because it their holster is adjusted far too low.I'm not arguing that shoulder holster is superior, but for guys that are chubby with a big butt (me) the awkwardness and discomfort of IWB carry can easily be over come with a vest or over shirt. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ikbm3c

Why does appendix carry make people nervous?
I'm looking to start carrying soon and I'm interested in appendix carrying because it's a little more concealable in what I wear but every time I read about appendix carrying people always say that it makes them nervous about having a gun pointed at their junk or femoral artery. I'm definitely not a gun expert by any means but if your gun has an external safety on it and it's on isn't the chance of a ND pretty much zero? Is all this fear because people are trying to appendix carry glocks or other guns with no external safety? If my logic here doesn't make sense please enlighten me but I just fail to see why people are nervous about it unless they are carrying a gun with no external safety. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2iHaCBH
Thoughts on the LCP 2 for pocket carry?
Most of the time I carry a 9mm IWB. However, In situations where I need to be absolutely concealed I am all for the pocket 380.I have had my eye on the ruger lcp 2 for a while but before I go with it I wanted to know what your opinions on it were. Some of my main concerns:Reliability - is the gun going to fail when I need it the most?Ability to conceal - is the gun small enough to disappear in a pocket? In tight pants?SAO trigger + safety features - does this gun have modern safety features like drop safety? can i carry an SAO gun loaded in my pocket?Holsters - I have seen the factory pocket holster it comes with, is it any good? Are there better after market ones?Alternatives - if you absolutely hate the gun, what comparable alternatives are out there that deserve consideration? If anyone has an experience with the above concerns or anything I should know about the gun in general i'd love to hear about it. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ia6Jbq
There is a great app called "Splits - Shot Timer" that I just downloaded to help me practice my draw
it's free. I know it's in the Google Play store, but I can't speak for iOS. It has a random timer that beeps and then records the shot or dry fire following it. I just found the app today and tried it out by drawing and dry firing at myself in the mirror. It seems pretty accurate even with just the sound of the dry fire. I was practicing with my holster IWB @ 4:00 under a flannel and long sleeve-tee, then acquired my target (my center mass) and fired. I was averaging 1.65s or so, barring any draw malfunction like my shirt getting stuck on the grip. I plan on practicing once in a while with whatever I happen to be wearing that day.TL;DR it's a great free app that times how long it takes you to draw and fire after a random beep. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/2ijmYTT
