"Competition" guns for EDC or home defense?

Certain model guns are marketed as "competition" shooters like the Glock 34 or Stacatto XL. Does that mean they are not suitable for "duty" use and cannot be trusted in life or death situations? I'm weary of the manufacturer's classification. Is the difference between a Glock 17 and Glock 34 really that remarkable that something about the engineering or the longer barrel makes it less suitable for duty? Or is it simply a function of the longer barrel and weight being less practical for daily carry? via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/3laS53q
