A few times a week /r/CCW gets a question about how to choose an appendix holster, or what appendix holster to get. There are lots of good holsters for appendix carry and many of them are quite similar. A good appendix holster has these features:"Zero cant", meaning the barrel of the gun is straight up and down, unlike a traditional IWB holster. This allows you to get a proper firing grip in the appendix position without turning your wrist unnaturally. A slight reverse cant can also work.Complete coverage of the trigger guard with solid material on both sides.The right balance of retention, meaning that it fits tightly enough to keep the gun from falling out if you get into a scuffle but can still be drawn quickly.Secure attachment to your belt. Lots of clips (including the standard cheap J-hook clips you commonly see on budget holsters) don't attach securely, some do with an appropriate belt. Soft loops always stay on, and it's an inexpensive fix to replace bad clips with a soft loop kit. Hard loops work too, but may be a little less convenient to get on and off.A "claw" or equivalent feature which aids in concealment. The number one concealment problem with appendix holsters is the grip of the gun rotating outward and being clearly visible underneath a shirt. A claw will keep the grip oriented correctly for concealment.A foam wedge at the bottom of the gun can improve comfort, and some body types need it to keep the gun laying flat against the body rather than the top of the gun rotating outward.
