Amazing experience with TN CCW Class

Hi folks, just wanted to share this great experience I had taking the 8 hour TN CCW course. The forecast called for rain all day, and sure enough it was pouring! Turned out to be great, but more on that later.Walking into the classroom, I was expecting it to be like IL's class, 98% old Fudds. Instead it was almost a 50/50 split between men and women, all ages, lots of diversity too. It looked like a McDonald's ad or something. It was also nice to see the fairer sex represented so well too, since I feel that personal defense is something everybody that's willing should practice. The class itself was ok, it's state-issued material, so my only gripe there was a very little focus on what I feel is one of the most important parts of CC: safely concealing your weapon and safely drawing it. It was just "get a holster or a purse" and that's it. Instead it should be carry as much as you can, practice your draw every day, and hope you never need that muscle memory. The best part of the day was the range qualification though. It was absolutely pouring down rain at this point, which I think is perfect. You can't count on perfect weather in a defensive situation, so being able to perform in bad conditions too is a great feeling. For the qualification, we had to score 70% at 3, 5, and 7 yards. This shouldn't be too difficult for most people, but in the rain people were dropping their rounds on reloads (rain, maybe nerves?), so added challenge! Anyone that's shot a lot before probably wouldn't have too much trouble, and I've been shooting for over 25 years, so there was just one ragged hole where the X ring used to be. The retired police trainer comes over and suggests I go for the tiny scoring number in the upper left instead, so I do that. Same thing, so then he says "let's just have fun with it. HE'S COMING RIGHT FOR YOU! DUCK! GO FOR HEADSHOTS!"That's a different kind of rush I hadn't experienced before, but amazing. Having never done 3 gun or anything competitive, it was a nice taste of what's out there. Not quite the same thing as calmly focusing on technique in a controlled environment, and if anyone hasn't yet, try it at least once and see if you like it.Anyway, hopefully you enjoyed reading this, and if you've had any good experiences like this lately, I'd love to hear them! via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2I6pmeC
