What do you feel the merits of open carry vs concealed carry are? Things have been getting worse in the area I'm in, and I have taken to carrying my full size (PPQ) instead of my normal CC (PPS). The reason that I mention open carry is strictly because the only holster I have for the PPQ right now is an OWB holster. It's a level 2 retention holster, so I'm not really worried about someone trying to grab it from me. The release mechanism is not obvious, and anyone that touches my gun from behind me will be on the receiving end of an elbow to the face pretty quickly. What I have been thinking about quite a bit lately though is how open carry will change the perception of my by any would-be assailants. Unfortunately where I live right now there is a lot of meth activity, and people being overly aggressive is not uncommon. Even recently while open carrying, I had a large guy follow me for a block or so as I walked home with my dog spouting obscenities and trying to get me to fight or otherwise engage him. Prior to all of this I was firmly in the concealed carry camp, but due to the recent events I have started carrying openly so that: my weapon is easier to access if need be, I can carry a larger capacity, and (one of my original thoughts) it would make me less of a target. Also I believed that I would carry concealed, and call the police anytime things like this were going down (which I have had to do multiple times). Sadly though the police in the area would rather ignore the issue than do anything about it. I even called them after the guy followed me home and the response I got was "So what would you like us to do about it?"That last one is where I start wondering though. The incidents haven't really decreased since I started carrying openly as I thought they would. My thought process would be why try and engage someone who obviously has a deadly weapon with them. As a "bad guy" I would skip that person completely as a target if they had a big gun on their hip. Clearly I'm not thinking like the problematic people of my area do though.I was just looking for some of your input as to pros and cons of open carry that I may not have been thinking of. Are there any big cons to open carry that I'm not thinking of? Possibly a "bad guy" with a weapon being preemptive simply because they know that I an carrying? Or even any advice as to what you would do in a situation like this? (obviously moving is pretty high on my list of priorities)Sorry if this just seems like a rant, it partially is I guess. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1TwKvfS
