This happened about a week ago, and after thinking about it I decided to post about it. Also, I carry an M&P 9c for any who care.I was driving on the highway heading to help a buddy move a heavy ass piano. It was about 1400 and traffic was a little heavier than usual and I was in the center lane of a 3 lane highway. I came up on a semi that was going a little slower than the flow of the traffic and I decided to pass it. I put my signal on and looked in my mirror and saw that I had about a 2 car space to get over. I quickly got over to go around the semi and the van that was now behind me honked at me. Realizing that I probably cut them off I gave a wave to show that I was sorry and that I thought I had more space. At this point the driver lost his mind. He flew up on me and was swerving back in forth in the lane, flashing his lights and honking at me. As soon as I was able, I moved back to the center lane thinking that he would just pass me, well, he did not. He pulled up next to me, my window was down as it was a beautiful day outside. He shouting that he was going to fuck me up and every other thing that came to his mind. At this point I decided to just get off the highway and proceed to get over to the right lane for an upcoming exit (making extra sure to not cut anyone else off...). He followed, continuing the honking and flashing off his lights. At this point I noticed that he was reaching around on the passenger side of the van, obviously trying to grab something. As I pulled onto the exit ramp I noticed that it was a red light and there were a number cars in the way and I couldn't just go through it. I came to a stop behind the next car with enough room to drive away using the shoulder, thinking that he was going to pull up behind me. Well he didn't, he used the shoulder the pull sideways in front me in the space I made. At this point he grabbed something from the passenger side and got out of his van. Not knowing what he grabbed and expecting the worst, I threw my car in park, unbuckled and drew and exited my car, staying behind the door and A post. At this point he was out of his van and at the front of my car, I noticed that he had something in his hand. I leveled my firearm at him, finger off the trigger, instructing him to get the fuck back into van and drive away. His eyes widened and he put his hands up, at this point I saw that it was a screwdriver in his hand, and he got back into his van. At this point the light turned green, and this is where I fucked up, I should have let him drive away first, but I got back in my car and took off...only to get stuck at another red light. Low and behold this guy flies up next to me in the adjacent lane and proceeds to get out of his van again. This time I thought for sure I was going to have to shoot this guy, I had my pistol drawn and leveled inside my car, I don't know what this guy was thinking, if he forgot that I had a gun or was high or what. Again, I yell at him to get back into his fucking van and drive away, and this time he just go back to the van and starts digging around in it. So again, as I am stuck in traffic, I exit the car and stay on the drivers side. At this point, traffic begins to move again, this time I am staying, and he decides that he is staying. I am scanning around and notice that there is a police in the pack of oncoming traffic in the nearest lane. I toss my pistol on my floorboard and honk and wave and the officer immediately stops. I let him know that I have a gun and about the guy in the van. The guy is standing in the door of the van, empty handed. I work 911 so I remained calm while talking to the officer and explaining the situation. The officer had me pull into a parking lot and then instructed the guy in the van to wait while he turned around and then followed him into the same lot. The whole time this guy is shouting his head off about how I am a faggot and how he is going to kill me when he sees me next. I don't say anything back to him. The officer comes up to me and asks for a rundown of the situation and if my pistol is holstered. Again, while I am talking to the officer this guy is yelling everything possible. A few times the officers has to yell at him to shut up. Another officer arrived on scene and he asked for my Carry Permit and confirmed it, went over and talked with the other officer and listened to other guy yelling and came back over to me. He told me that the guy was complaining that I pointed a gun at him and the officer informed him that he should be complaining that I shot him and he was lucky. I asked if I was right in exiting my car and he informed that I was indeed fine in doing so. In the end we all went home and I learned a lot.My thought on exiting was this, if he came out with a gun I did not want to be stuck sitting in my car trying to react. With exiting I would be able to move around and react to fire more appropriately. I remembered my training that a stationary vehicle is a death trap. via /r/CCW http://ift.tt/1qP8ono
